so far so good. I thought I would give this pump a try as the flow was way higher than my ehiem pump at way less watts. I went from 78 watts (return plus 2 reactors) down to 20. if the pump lasts a year it will pay for itself in energy savings alone based on my rates calculated as saving $.20 a day. I paid $60.20 for the pump, so 301 days (DCP-6500)I love the soft start function, my wifes biggest complaint about the tank was when you start the tank from feed mode it would shoot a burst of water out and it was loud. this one starts really slow and works it's way up which is a nice touch. on top of that the pump is dead silent.**Update**Over a year in and this pump is still going strong! If it were to fail today I'd buy another one.

Super quiet
This didn’t move as much water as I thought it would, but it is so quiet you can’t really be mad. Wish it was a little more powerful but I can always upgrade. The pump is great dialing in the power level if you need it slower.

Nice and cheap
At a less than a third of the price of a comparable Ecotech pump, this DC pump definitely gets the job done. It has pvc fittings only, so if you plan on running a soft hose from this pump you will need to pick up the appropriately sized barbed fitting at home depot, or lowes. It is extremely quiet. All I could hear is water passing through my tubing with my stand doors open. With them closed I couldn't hear a thing. I have it running at 50 percent on a 66 gallon aquarium. It's fed into a 90 degree barbed fitting up through 1 inch tubing, into a 1 inch pvc T and locline. Needless to say it's enough flow and turnover for sure. This is also the heaviest return pump I've owned. Its comparable in size to a rio 2500, but its built like a tank.Time will tell how long it lasts. I have a feeling it will give me a good few years.

Awesome
Great product. Near silent, the controls work great. I have this in my 20g sump for a 90g saltwater tank. This is working perfectly. I will most definitely buy again.

My second purchase.
My first one last 2 years.I'm very quiet. Never stopped working everyday for 2 years... I think it's a great value.

External use
I have mine hard piped with 3/4” pvc external on my 75 gal. water storage tank for aquarium. Works great and no leaks.

Powerful and Quiet
I just installed this in a new 120 gallon setup with two 3/4 returns fed by 1 inch tubing from the pump to the bulkheads. I was a big worried this might be too much pump for my setup even at the lowest setting but it is perfect suited for the job. The pump is so much smaller than the HF20 (Rio) that it replaced making it more flexible for different size sumps and placement to best fit the plumbing needs. This pump is SILENT and I mean so quiet that you don't hear any sound emitted by the pump even with the tank cabinet doors wide open. The AC pump it replaced hummed and you sort of just got sued to it but this pump is dead quiet. The start up feature is nice as it ramps up slowly allowing the drains to adjust evenly and nicely. I expect this pump to last a very long time considering i am using it predominantly on the lowest setting.

Easy connections, poorly written manual.
Just received this pump as a replacement for a Mag 18. Both have similar performance curves, but this one promised much lower electrical consumption, which is my main reason for switching.Positives: Very well packaged, multiple boxes, and layers to get through, pump and parts neatly organized. Pretty simple connections for the 3 main components - pump, controller, and DC converter. Upon installation, pump also is quiet, virtually no audible hum.Negatives: Manual sorely lacking, clearly it was a translated document done literally so there are a lot of very strange phrases in it. Bigger issue is that while the control unit only has 3 unlabeled buttons, an up arrow, a down arrow, and a pause button, the manual references the "FEED" button for instance. The unit comes with a bunch of connectors, none of which were sized for my existing tubing which is standard 3/4" tubing. There are both barbed connectors and what looks like slip connectors for pvc, but they are some sort of plastic, and I don't know if they are compatible with PVC. I was unable to find a connector sized to any of the various piping I have in my aquarium closet to allow using a foam prefilter for this pump, so I left the coarse screen. This screen is not fine enough from preventing fry from entering it - often my cichlid fry end up in the sump.Other: The unit is surprisingly light compared to the Mag 18, probably about 1/2 the mass. Not sure if this is good or bad however.Overall, the unit seems ok, obviously can't make any judgements on longevity since it was installed yesterday.
