Great reel
Good braking system - great quality. Robust construction.

Half of the reel was missing !
Cannot fault the swift delivery however, I was very unpleasantly surprised after opening the penn fathom box to find the right hand side plate was missing, meaning the reel was completely useless. Now I have to go through the hassle of having to return and wait for a refund which is easier said than done as the local post offices have early closing times which is inconvenient when you work. Thoroughly disappointed, lets hope second time lucky....

Drag failed on the second time of use !
Looks great but drag failed on second outing ! Very poor will not buy another and doesn’t seem very easy to get repaired under warranty!Had to give one star that it doesn’t deserve 😡

Fantastic salt water bait caster.
If you’re in the surf casing lures for Bass this is the reel to have. It’s one of those bits of kit you can just use without any worries. The Mag control can be a bit fiddly with cold hands if you’re changing lure weigh a lot. But if you’re like me and just set it a little on the high side it works very well. Well worth its price on the day.

Great reel with key features that stand out.
Firstly I am very experienced with bait casters the options I looked at were Shimano, Curado,Tranx/Daiwa Tatula/Okuma. I bought the 300 lefty fathom above them all because,1.has double the drag except for the Tranx which is very heavy2. Has more line capacity for a 3003. Has a disengaging level wind which put me of the very good Okuma as it acts like a break during casting4. Fathom looks the best is smaller in hand and is salt proof.5. Two key features are synchronised central control knob and drag which means once set stays in place, only found on top spec models, the only negative is the others are made in Japan as the Penn is made in Korea but quality wise looks just of good inside and out, it casts up with the best I turned two of inside breaks off and tuned with the external mag and it casts brilliant, hope this helps any that research’s the best for the price which the Fathom is.
