best hard drive ever: lightweight, beautiful design, small, powerful, fast

I had been using a 2T hard drive from the same people but it is not portable, too big & heavy. I decided to go for the benefits of a small & neat SSD especially as I was buying a new PC which has an inbuilt SSD. I keep my old HD fully backed up but switched off. If I did get a wipe-out attach at least a have a "vault" copy.I tried to register the SSD online but it was not recognised. I contacted WD and they tried but failed to register it for me. A few days later they came back and said that they had proof it was a legitimate WD device and they registered it on their records for me. A load of firms would just wash their hands.Quite please with it all - except that the data cable is far too short & it sits too high on the PC. The bonus is that it now has good airflow, as SSD's can really heat up.

This sleek and colourful WD drive just arrived ...and it initially 'looks' promising and seems fast at 'write speeds' when copying single files ( Multiple files... and like every other drive, it slows down considerably ) Heft is sometimes thought of... as a barometer of quality. This feels plasticky, but that could also be considered a benefit, as it's exceptionally lightweight. I'm not sure how long the very striking 'plasticky' body of this so-called 'metallic' drive will last, or how it might look after a couple of months in back pockets and of day to day use? I've photographed it ( upside down for some reason? ) next to the Sandisk Extreme and you can see that the Sandisk is marginally smaller and not as bulky as the WD drive. The Sandisk also has a rubberised coating, that looks like it might withstand a drop. Can't imagine the WD surviving a similar drop as well as WD says it will? In summary, the drive looks good, performs OK, but is plasticky in a way that says 'cheap'. Purchased on a 'special deal' and I'm not sure I'd chose this option again, over the Samsung 'T' range or the Sandisk if it weren't.

It's amazing how much storage can be compressed into such a small space! Every time I buy external storage it comes in a smaller package. I've loaded it with a lot of data, it's in use every day, and there is no evidence of any faults. Perfectly adequate speed for everyday use. Comes with a very short USB-C to USB-C cable.

A large memory in a small and portable unit similar in size to an iPhone.I bought this unit to replace an obsolete WD product. Backup WD software already installed in my Mac works seamlessly. The hardware and your files can be password protected incase the unit is lost or stolen, or you have an option to recognise your computer automatically whilst locking if attached to another computer.Overall good value and very compatible with my Apple network.

Seem to be pretty fast. Nice and portable too.

Had it for less than a year, treated it with baby gloves and it will not mount. WD support not much help and unable to retrieve the data so this is a completely useless drive. I would advise not to buy. Not reliable.

We were recommended to purchase a WD 1TB My Passport Portable SSD, External NVMe Solid State Drive, USB-C, up to 1050 MB/s, Works with PC,This we could order off Amazon.This would allow us to automatically back up the required programs each week at a certain time.When it arrived we plugged it in and followed the instructions, to set it up.Unfortunately it did not back up the programs that we were using.However I contacted WD. I had to fill a lot of information on their site before we could get to the problem. (Which I realised why later)After which I was amazed that I had a phone call from them.With his help we cleared everything I had done and started again. The guy was very patience and talked me through how to set it up and more. I checked the day after it was set the backup, which it hadHe followed it up with an email a few days later to see if all was ok, which it had.I recommend this product and the support which I received was brilliant.Tremendous service/support.
