Very nice island that stands the test of time
We bought this island in 2013 right here on Amazon. It has been used and enjoyed every day, so I can speak to the quality of this piece over the test of time. We were very happy with it from the start and remain so. It was easy to assemble and adds a lot to our counter top and storage space in the kitchen. It is heavy, durable and looks great. Since it's on hardwood, we put round felt bottomed pads under each foot (Waxman 2.5 inch super sliders are perfect). Heavy though it is, we can move it around if we need/want to fairly easily and with no damage to the floor. The top is black and very nice looking and smooth, and we put a glass top on it before we ever used it. The result is a beautiful island that is just as sturdy, usable, and attractive as when we first got it. We expect to continue enjoying it for many years. FYI, we recently bought another Home Styles Americana cabinet (the pantry), and it is a high quality piece as well and looks great with the island! We highly recommend this island, and based on our experience we recommend the whole Home Styles Americana collection!

Custom Look for Much Less - Amazing Value and Quality!
I have had this island for about 5 months now and I absolutely love it!I searched far and wide for kitchen islands before committing to the Americana Kitchen Island, and then researched price via dozens of online vendors. Amazon was by far the least expensive. As the other reviewers have stated, the island arrived in two extremely heavy boxes. I was a little worried about the wood getting dinged up during the shipping process, but the pieces were packaged very securely in styrofoam and foam sheets. From the opening of the boxes to the last step, assembly took my husband and I less 2 hours. The instructions were very easy to follow!I am very pleased with the quality of this piece --- it's extremely sturdy and an amazing value, not to mention gorgeous! It easily passes as high-end and nobody would guess that I got it for just under $360!The only thing I would change would be to put the drawer on some sort of track system. Because it opens from both sides of the island, the drawer just kind of sits in the drawer slot. It can look a little crooked if you don't slide it back in just-so, but it's not a major issue. That being said, it's really nice to have access from both sides so you don't have to walk around to get what you need. The enclosed shelves can also be accessed from either side, and I was really surprised at how much storage space there was!Our house is now under contract to be sold and this island was requested to remain in the home on all the offers that we received. It really became the centerpiece of the kitchen and gave it the finishing touch it always seemed to be missing. As soon as I am in my new home I will absolutely be ordering another one!

Beautiful, Solid, and Easy to Assemble
I am amazed at the quality of this piece. It is heavy and substantial as well as gorgeous. It arrived in two boxes, perfectly packed and with no nicks or blemishes on a single piece.I am a 68 y/o woman with mobility issues and I was able to assemble it myself in about 90 minutes. The instructions are clear and everything is labeled. The only grumble I have has nothing to do with the kitchen island itself. It is about the amount of cleanup time to break down multiple foam panels and inserts for the bin, plus time to break down the two huge boxes for recycling. Tomorrow I will tackle vacuuming up the little snowballs of foam bits that are everywhere on my lanai. I can’t be too mad at the packaging because it protected my island on its long journey to my home. But my advice: open the boxes and remove the parts outside or in the garage to avoid a mess in the house.

With a few adjustments it's a great piece.
Let's start with the good. This island has the potential to be a statement piece in your kitchen. It is gorgeous. It was shipped quickly, but we had to have it shipped to my husband's workplace because the company decided that shipping it to our house would somehow make it an OSHA risk??? Very odd. Nevertheless, we changed the address and viola! Suddenly it was fine. It arrived very well packaged with each piece wrapped well.My husband assembled it himself with no problem at all until he got to the door hinges. He says the creators failed to take into account the thickness of the doors, so the hinges that came with the island didn't hold the door closed, even with the magnetic closures. He went and purchased the ones you see in the photo. Those are self-closing hinges so the doors close themselves, which is nice.We also added the butcher block top, which we bought at Lowe's in the countertop department. He just had to cut a few inches off the end for it to fit perfectly. You could also just leave it with the extra few inches of length giving you a 2-inch overhang on each end. Our space was tight so that wasn't an option. That added another $100 to the cost of the island. The storage capacity is good, but not as much as you'd expect by looking at it. The shelves on the sides are not deep or tall. I included a photo showing some recipe books so you can get an idea. The second shelf up holds only smaller books, and you can see that they barely fit.Now that it's complete, I must say that I love it. It was also beautiful without the butcher block top. The black will need to be wiped down daily as everything shows on it, but I knew that before I ordered it.I do recommend this piece, understanding that you may have to change the hinges.Update 12/19/21– it’s been a year and a half and I’m still in love with this island. It has held up well. No nicks or chips. No issues.Update: 3/21/23–still going strong!
