Scanning the Pharaohs: CT Imaging of the New Kingdom Royal Mummies

When I saw that this book was much cheaper that new copies, I wasn’t expecting much. Other than a few wrinkles on the dust jacket, the book is in excellent condition! Thanks!

Went to a lecture by Dr. Hawass and he talked about this book, so I ordered it. Very good, in depth reports on the project to x-ray Egypt's royal mummies.

I use the book for my own information, however it is complicated to use.

This is a valuable volume for my working library. The book is filled with useful information, new techniques, current information about Egyptian mummies and the medical studies being done with the mummified remains. Ancient Egyptian mummies have contributed a great deal of knowledge to our understanding of the culture, religion, and medical practices of this civilization. This book brings it all together to produce a volume of priceless information.

This is a great book, and I can recommend it to anyone interested in ancient Egypt.

Not a complete study of Royal mummies, rather selected ones. Should have included actual facial reconstructions like tutankhamun's but only included CT reconstructions. I am still awaiting to see Amenhotep the magnificent's and Akenhaten the heretc's actual faces. Book is somewhere in between proffesional and popular categories. Rather Zahi should have focused on producing two books for proffesionals and for general readers. I really don't know whether this project continues to complete all royal mummies. So 2nd volume is a must. However still the book completely covered Royal Mummies is Elliot's book (Published a century ago!)This book is authorative, up to date, excellent source for both Medicine and Egyptology studies, but I simply expected more from the person who has access and authority over all Royal mummies.

Truly the first of its kind, very informative with excellent images and explanation of the CT technology. For anyoneinterested in Egyptology its a must read. Excellent.

Fascinating study of the results of DNA and CAT Scan tests carried out by the Egyptian Antiquities Council on all of the Royal Mummies in their care. Answers many questions about who was related to who, gives probable identity to mystery mummies. Probable cause of Tutankhamen’s early death clearer after this project. Full of photographs but they are, of course, mostly of CT Cans. If you are really into Ancient Egypt this is for you.

Good, but dissapointing. Probably my expectations about the content were too high.

great book. it is a pitty that some of the new kingdom pharaohs were not analysed, such as ahmose and amenhotep ii, but overall a great book, with a lot of info on the mummies that were scanned and analysed.
