Merrell Men's Proterra Sport Hiking Shoe

worthless product ... bought this model and another identical from Merrell directly ...BOTH shoes only lasted 1 month before the heel / cup padding was blown out ... making the shoes useless .....AMAZON return window closed... so sent both pair back to Merrell...they only credited for one pair ... thus I spent 100 dollars twice for shoes that lasted less than 1 month....and only refunded 1/2 the problem... this after YEARS of faithful Merrell products ....Merrell has lost there direction, and the customer service is way less than adequate ....!!!!this shoe should have never been developed, released and sold... and then discontinued ... for obvious technical quality / design issues !!!!!

I've owned a pair of these shoes for about 3 years now. Use them for my vacation travel shoes. Could not be more pleased and would definitely purchase again. Super comfortable and versatile. Walked all through city streets of Boston, hiked New Hampshire woods and mountains, hiked through rivers and mountains in Puerto Rico's El Yunque rain forest and throughout the coblestone streets of Old San Juan. Not one blister to show for it; not one sore foot experience. Highly recommended.

After reading the other posts about the size running a bit large I ordered a 9.5 when I usually wear a 10. That was a good choice. They do seem to run a bit large. The 9.5 is a perfect fit for me and there is still adequate room for foot swell after a long day of hiking. The shoes are super comfy right out of the box and seem to hold up well. One note on the Brindle color- I expected it to be a little more light gray from this picture but it's really more of a tan or almost light brown. If you do a Google search and look at Images you can get a better feel for the color than this picture. I have had many Merrell's over the years and drifted away the last few years, man am I glad I am back. These are great shoes. I feel like I can confidently give them 5 stars because I did previous research on sizing. Had I not, I would have to take away a star. So be sure to order a 1/2 size smaller than you usually wear.

I wish the traction on these was better. They would be five stars if it weren't for the poor traction. I slipped on an icy area while hiking. The good thing is that they are water-resistant and offer excellent stability on concrete or other even, dry, surfaces. They have a very comfortable and roomy toe-box. They are good for dry/summer hikes and I prefer the look and feel better than regular tennis/athletic shoes.

After reading reviews, I bought them a half size smaller than I normally would and they fit perfectly.I am extremely rough on my shoes. I normally have to buy a new pair every 6 months, usually due to wearing out the glue that holds the soles on, or stitching coming out.I wear these to work with khakis and I've also worn them to hike the side of a mountain. I found them to be perfect for both.I believe that they look as good as the day that I bought them.I plan on buying another pair just in case at some point, I DO wear these out.. although I can't see it happening, they seem indesctructable..

These shoes are great, but very slippery on wet metal. I know what you're thinking..."when do I ever walk on wet metal?". The answer is: more than you think. I had read this in a previous review and blew it off. After a slip down some wet metal stairs of an office trailer, I've learned that even one slip is too many. I am still healing. Everyone else in the office went out to the stairs and found that their shoes didn't slip at all, but a second check with mine clearly demonstrated that the rubber soles lacked some sort of no-slip rubber that is common in everyone else's shoes. It's worth mentioning that the tread on my shoes is hardly worn down at all. I had originally posted a 5 star review of these...since my fall, I am lowering it to two.

These are very comfortable shoes, nice and airy so the feet don't sweat too much and the soles are still flexible enough for the shoes to be worn everyday and not just when hiking. I feel these run a bit large however, the size 11 was too small (my toes were smashed to the front) but the 11 1/2's are nearly an inch longer so I have a bit too much room in the toes now...but I've decided to live with that because I like the shoes (I've owned many pairs of Merrell shoes over the years and they hold up much better than many other brands and they make their toe boxes wider for those of us with wide feet) and I didn't think I'd have any better luck with a different pair of 11 1/2's.

I don't usually drop money on expensive hiking shoes but I have been backpacking a lot more this year so I decided to get some good hiking shoes. I initially ordered a size 10 but had read the sizing was a bit large so I cancelled and order a 9.5. Upon receiving them, I was eager to try them on. The shoes live up to the expectation and easily exceeded my expectations. They extremely balanced in weight through out the shoe. They are light weight, but not too much. They hold together well. When you step, the internal cushion in the shoe does not move around. These shoes are very well put together and I am thrilled to have purchased them! They were so comfortable right off the bat.

Well packaged. Arrived top speed. First rate value for money as great quality. I love them. so comfortable another pair of merrell shoes for the wife to trip over in the Motorhome. Oooooppppps. This is My 3rd pair.

Always thought Merrell were beyond my price range , but these were at a very good price. Ordered via Amazon at SportsShoes . The service was brilliant ; ordered one evening and courier was knocking on the door less than 36 hours later . Shoes are excellent quality and Ihope to get a lot of use out of them .

width fitting is fine but my toes are touching the shoe and causing discomfort after short use

Unfortunately they are slightly too small and due to the unusual shape of the shoe this means my toes are pressing against the front.

Great pair of walking shoes and really look the part, that`s why i brought a pair.Fit great...well satisfied
