Homebrew Birch Root Beer

Delishious!
This was my first experiment with home root beer making, and I think it turned out pretty well! I got it for my mom as a birthday present because she has said that her favorite soda growing up was birch-beer, which can no longer be found locally. The consensus was that while it didn't taste like the kind she had as a kid, it was a really good root-beer! We just added it to a club soda/ seltzer, with a little bit of sugar water for light sweetness. It worked really well, and the next adventure will be to follow the instructions to carbonate with bread-yeast.

Hard to Find
This is harder to find than Root Beer. It is outstanding for home-brew or for flavoring your carbonated water. It has more of a bite than Root Beer. If you brew Root Beer this can add some class and uniqueness or for real men and women or small children this can be a stand alone flavor that will mystify folks who have only ever heard of Root Beer.

Enjoy your endeavor
I'm not sure I can detect too much difference in Birch Root Beer and classic root beer but this product will get you to the backbone of making your own root beer (experiment from here!). Can be made in a variety of ways, including just putting a tablespoon in soda water with some sugar. Enjoy your endeavor!

Absolutely terrible!
I'm not sure how the homebrew yeast recipe tastes, but if you want a quick drink by using this syrup in soda water (or club soda), forget it. I doubled the volume of syrup and the flavor was still very weak. If you are looking for that strong Birch Beer flavor from the old Royal Castle Stores, this is not it. On the positive side, I only lost $6.44.A word of warning about adding sweetener to the soda water. DON'T!!!! If you have ever seen the fountains produced by adding Mentos to soda, this rivals them. It took quite a while to dry the kitchen ceiling, counter tops, cabinet doors, walls, and floor. LOL Luckily, I put the sweetener in before the syrup, so there was no staining. You need to completely dissolve the sweetener in a small amount of water then add the mixture to the soda. Notice the word COMPLETELY, if any sweetener remains undissolved...!!!!!!! You were warned. Sharper taste??
Bought regular root beer and birch root beer so I could taste the difference. Regular was okay but birch was like a watered down version. Regular had more flavor.
