The instructions said it would leak at first, I ...
The instructions said it would leak at first, I filled it with water and it did leak a little bit for about a day. I let it soak in water for three days, then emptied, filled it with boiling water and let it rest for another day. After that break-in process, the barrel was sealed and ready to go.Things to know:A two liter barre really only holds about 1.75 litters of liquid. This barrel is pre-charred inside.A two litters barrel will age liquor the equivalent of one year in only 80 days.

Be careful. The company does not stand behind its warranty.
I immediately fell in love with my barrel. Bought $75+ of bourbon and put in it to age. Followed the instructions to a "T" and sampled the success as it aged over the first couple of months.Over a couple of weeks during the holiday, I put the barrel in a dry, heated, covered space with all the knobs in the correct/off position. I checked on it after a while and everything was ok, but a few weeks later, I came home to find that all the remaining bourbon had leaked out.Yikes.Since I had a 90-day warranty, I emailed the company about a replacement. No answer.Tried again.Still no answer. So, I had to get Amazon to help me get a refund.Shouldn't have had to go that route, but I had no other choice.I'm not sure exactly what happened -- maybe the barrel was defective or of poor workmanship or I just got unlucky. Whatever happened should have at least been responded to the vendor. It appears that this is the same barrel manufactured in China and sold in discounted lots @ Alibaba. Then, the stateside vendor probably laser etches the monogram, name, etc.Your experience may be different and I hope, for you, it is. I could tell that my intended end result was on its way to success, but unfortunately, I never got a chance to find out.

Get some Barrel Wax when you Order them.
So I ordered three 3-liter barrels to age my whiskey in, figured I could rotate bourbons, ryes and whiskeys to infuse more flavor or age some rum, port or sherry in them then age the whiskey. After reading the reviews I was anticipating leaks with the barrels, I followed the directions religiously and was really surprised that after 2 days there were no leaks in any of the barrels. I did the hot water and still no leaks 24 hours later. I then put my whiskey in them and one of them formed a small leak up towards the top at the front of the cask, where the head meets the staves. I figured I would just let it end on it's own and kept a paper towel under it to catch the tiny drips but after a week it was still happening so I ordered some barrel wax and with a small finger amount fixed the problem.Overall I am really thrilled with them and they have allowed me to take my love for whiskey to a new level.

Taking Moonshine to the next level
SO I KNOW A GUY..... it certainly ISNT ME... that takes downed apples from the trees on his property and distills an apple brandy. It is great on it's own but one time he aged it in this barrel for a few months and WOW, did it make the flavor profile so much better. It was soooo good I had to find it on Amazon and write a review.

Not a bad experiment
First off, this is not a bad little barrel. It just has a few things you need to consider. You should know it will NOT seal immediately (no barrel will.) The wood needs time to absorb the water and expand. With my 2 liter, it actually took 6 days to fully seal and stop leaking.Second, this barrel is lacquer finished. Meaning that it has been altered and disqualifies it from bourbon making (considered an additive.)Third, there is a charr. Though I don’t know the level, it is more than likely a 2 or 3.I plan to use my 2 liter for homegrown/made blackberry wine. I also plan to get a 5 liter and 20 liter for the bigger batches. After a few years of this, I plan to finish a bourbon in it.

Did Not Hold Up
I want to start this off by I hate writing reviews. My boyfriend ordered this for us and I was super excited because, we love our bourbon. However, I followed the instructions thoroughly and after day three the wood cracked on the nozzle.I ran it under water, filled it with water, and dried the exterior gently 2 times a day, for 3 days. This evening I noticed a piece was missing from the front/ nozzle and found it in my sink, and it was still leaking even though it’s supposed to stop after day 2.

good while it held, but spout failed after approximately two weeks (3 including seasoning)
After reading other reviews mentioning that the barrel leaks, I decided to chance it on the off chance that it was early quality control problems or that other reviewers failed to follow the instructions. I followed the included instructions carefully to give it the best chance I could. After 5 days of preparing it with water, I got a good seal that held. I filled with whiskey and after a week it made a noticeable difference in the taste. After two weeks, the spout split and started leaking. Over the course of one day it leaked most of the whiskey inside. I guess I could use it for decoration, but I bought it to be able to experiment with the taste a barrel imparts on whiskey where I could sample over time and compare to a well controlled baseline. In that respect it's failed me and I am now out the barrel and the whiskey it leaked.

one out of four was defective
I bought four barrels for my home distilling project. I read the instructions and prepped the barrels so they would not leak. All good. After a couple of weeks, I filled them with some bourbon and all was good. After about 10 days, one barrel broke. By broke, I mean one of the planks cracked as if it was tensioned too tight when built. The result was most of the bourbon leaked out. I sent a message to the seller with no response. I just sent another, we will see if they answer. In general, I like the product, however, they should have responded to my question and replaced my product. I need more barrels, but I am not sure I will buy from them again if they do not respond.
