Pleasantly surprised by how great this laptop is!
Wasn't my first choice of laptop, but absolutely blown away with how efficient and ergonomic it is. Everything I could want in a laptop, so so pleased! Great battery life, quiet, keeps cool, super light and sleek, uncluttered desktop. Love it!

Speedy machine, really impressed
Quality system, decent spec and upgradeable, which is ideal. Took a lot of time to do all the initial updates, but runs like a dream and the display is gorgeous. Love the usb-c connectivity options. Battery seems to last quite a while too, even when running a Teams meeting and multiple browser windows + tabs. Lovely sleek design, nice size for portability, and doesn't weigh a lot. Great machine all round, really impressed so far.

Serrious sleep issue (search 'XPS8960 sleep issue')
Spent HOURS on the phone to Dell Pro Support trying to get the computer to enter sleep mode and challenge its behaviour (fans, LED's, graphics card still running) when it was (rarely) in sleep state. Not resolved. They concluded it was a Windows issue, as opposed to a hardware issue and insisted I wiped and reloaded the O/S, despite me having protested that I'd spent 4 hours installing multiple apps and configuring them for my small business. The issue persisted despite me proceeding as instructed.I have arranged a return with Amazon who are kindly arranging to collect and refund.I have ordered a replacement but based on research on the web, I think there is a BIOS issue and I am now concerned that the replacement will be the same.In fact, I'm almost certain and now considering whether to reject, despite Amazon reassuring me that if this computer too was faulty, they would collect and refund for a second time. For those who have already purchased this and are now outside of the return window, I am sorry for you.I have found that by connecting a WIRED keyboard and mouse, rather than using wireless or bluetooth versions, the problem largely goes away; certainly enters sleep reliably but fans running on, waking when unattended and motherboard clicking still occur, probably temperature related? I appreciate that using wired peripherals is unappealing but 'any port in a storm'.BIOS version 2.11 is installed. This is essential to resolve a known issue with the i7 14th gen processor. The BIOS update on the Dell support site (2.13) and categorised as 'CRITICAL', fails to install. Dell tell me, not sure whether to believe it, that it's being blocked by Microsoft and should be installable by the end of this month (February 2025). So maybe this will fix the issue?I think the absence of sleep mode S3 is a part of the issue.I'll post again when the replacement arrives.

Fantastic value
Great little laptop, perfect keyboard, great screen and nice and fast. The build quality really is exceptional. Got mine with £300 off in the Prime day sale.

Loud, heavy, and a bad battery.
This laptop's fans are excessively loud, and this is incredibly annoying. The true battery life was under 5hrs, which makes it insufficient for essay writing etc. without a power bank or socket. The item was advertised as 0.7kg, but in fact weighs nearly 1.2kg. This was why I purchased this laptop over an alternative, and so I was very disappointed. The setup was relatively straightforward, though this did still take several hours as the software delivered on the device was so outdated.Overall, quite disappointed.

Powerful but can be noisy!
I picked this up as it was on Amazon Warehouse Like New for a good chunk of change off. It's light, feels & looks premium BUT it can be noisy. This is easily rectified though by removing certain bloatware off the laptop or disabling it at start-up.

Unreliable product, useless warranty and terrible customer service
I bought this product well in advance of Christmas to give to my daughter. When she opened her very expensive gifts it failed immediately. The battery would not hold a charge even though it said it was 95% charged. We contacted Dell tech support. The process is tedious you need to complete frustrating diagnostic reports even when the issue is obvious. When they eventually agreed that the issue was the battery they refused to provide a direct replacement laptop because the product was bought more than 30 days previously. I explained it was an out of the box issue and was told very firmly that the only option was a repair. By now I have wasted hours of time running diagnostics waiting for callbacks that never happened and then even having to chase the engineer appointment and my daughter not only has had no laptop for school but also now has a faulty product that may well fail again. The manager who eventually called me did not listen or show any care for the situation. My advice choose a manufacturer who has cares about their customer and takes responsibility for an out of the box failure! And if you do choose Dell please do a full check as soon as it arrives because you can’t trust that it will function even when you have paid over £1000!
