Hi. I would like to move a strip light in my garden shed and rather than rewire would I be able to connect an extra length of wire with this box ?

Yes you can use it on a standard lighting circuit (20a exceeds domestic lighting requirements) and it supports two cable ports with markings on the cover to ensure you expose the correct openings for a 1 to one connection. Being in the UK I must advise any work is inspected by a qualified sparky due to the ridiculous part-P regs, but it's up to you if you follow that bit.

Just to save a novice buying the wrong thing. Will this box enable me to split a ring wire and run a spur off it?

It’s only a 20A joint box, domestic rings are 32A so don’t do it unless you want a fire.
