Q: Ordered a kingston a2000 500gb nvme chip for mine. the nas will not recognize. support has not been much help. anyone else had similar problems?

Remote access is by default turned off. You do not have to enable it if you do not want that feature.

Q: Do i need an adaptor to mount a wd ssd onto the asus lockerstor 2?

There is a board with 2 ports for SSDs when you open up the NAS. You just have to make sure your M.2 SSD is a PCIe NNMe and not SATA. The NAS does not support SATA M.2 SSD.

Q: If I add a M2 ssd, does it get a harddrive letter or is it purely for cache?

You can do either cache or storage
