AirNav ADS-B 1090 MHz Outdoor Antenna with SMA Connector and FlightStick Bundle

I've had this installed outside for about 2 months now, and it's been flawless. The dongle has survived the somewhat cold temps (-12c) without any issue, and the antenna significantly increased my range from about 30nm with an old short antenna to 110+.

I have just installed the antenna and made some comparisons with my previous set-up. To be fair my old antenna was supposed to be for indoor use, not outside where I had it. It is the typical small indoor antenna, I cannot remember the make, but it is about twelve inches long and has a ‘spiral coil’ built into it. I am sure most of you will be familiar with these.The new antenna outperforms it by miles, literally and figuratively! I live in Nicosia and my nearest airport is Ercan. It’s not line-of-sight but is 6 to 7 miles east of me. Departing aircraft pass to the north, about three miles distant, climbing between 2 to 3000’.I used my ‘indoor’ antenna connected to my tablet and the AirNav antenna connected to the PC so I could have a comparison. The indoor was picking up one aircraft, the AirNav, six. Now I know many people would consider 6 a ridiculous number and be asking for their money back, but it is quiet were I am.The main differences I noticed are that I can now pick aircraft that are on approach to Ercan, not just departure, and when on the ground. Also, aircraft even south of Cyprus, not just south of my location.Also, all traffic going north/south & south/north to the East, before it was just the odd one. (Airway M13 between ‘RUDER’ & ‘BAPAX’.It is early days yet, so I may have to edit this later, but for day one I am very satisfied with the antenna.I have not mentioned the AirNav Flightstick because I am not using it yet. I bought the bundle simply so I would have a spare flightstick, just in case. I am currently using a FlightAware Pro Stick Plus.The software I am using is 'RTL1090' by Jetvision.de.I used Ty wraps to mount the antenna to a bracket I had, there was not enough thread on the ‘U-Bolts’ for my setup and I did not want to make extra spacers. Otherwise, no issues at all.

After reading some of the reviews I was very hesitant to purchase for use in the UK, however I can confirm when paired with a Raspberry pi this is brilliant. As soon as you link it to RadarBox they upgrade your free account to a business for free. You can then track your station live via their website or mobile app. So far I have just plugged it in, and rested the antenna in my loft to test it. The reception is much beyond my expectations I have seen aircraft upto 180NM away.
