On average, how good of an insulator is this item? Does it keep the house nice and warm/cool or room temp?

Terrible. The 2 inch gap created by the fact that these aren’t the correct size (82" instead of the advertised 84") let’s too much light and air in to be of any use in insulating.

Are these really stiff?

Stiff is no way to describe these curtains. They are so soft and flowing. I love the feel of the material. I'm so glad I purchased these. I was worried about the texture of the material but when I removed them from the bag I couldn't have been more happy. I love how they feel. You will too.
