This stuff is addicting
Caramelized goat cheese?? Who in their right mind thought that would be a good idea?Norwegians apparently. It’s like sweet fudgey goat cheese. Ok. That’s not it exactly. It’s like a blue cheese without the blue veining but caramelly. One thing for sure, it doesn’t have that strong goat cheese taste so if you’re like me and you don’t like that funky taste, rest assured, you’re safe with this stuff.I’ve heard it’s good on crispy waffles and if my waffle iron would actually crisp my waffles, I might try it that way. But I’ve had it with bread and apples and it’s amazing. I’ve even eaten it right off the block. Two caveats though. 1.) it’s sold in small blocks and 2.) it’s expensive as all get out for cheese. It also can’t be ordered on a whim. You need to plan for it because shipping takes well over a week here in the US. I think we need a local source because it feels like they’re importing it from a small mountainous village in Norway where goats coexist with jotuns. Maybe the jotuns are hoarding it like dragon treasure. I don’t know. But if you buy it, consider it a special treat until we can figure out how to make it here.Vermont might be a good place to try that. When that happens, I will need a weekly fix.

Easy on the stomach/digestible/useful for salads
First impression was of cheese with unfamiliar texture and color. The texture is dense and not at all crumbly. It is nothing like a cow's milk cheddar or Italian hard cheese. And it is not soft like Brie, or stringy like cow's milk mozzarella. The best comparison might be to Gouda, as the texture is even and uniform. This cheese really is very nice as small cubes mixed in with a tossed salad. Cubes keep their shape. Salt taste is mild...the description of "salty caramel" is somewhat misleading, as there is very little sweetness and the salt is just subtle. The color is definitely caramel. Taste and texture...more like a not very salty Gouda cheese. I like it.

The real deal
This is exactly the flavor I grew up with, living in a Norwegian American family. I've had cheaper, mixed varieties of brown-cheese, but I like the genuine unadulterated gjetost/brown cheese best. These small blocks are perfect to satisfy the late evening craving for something good and pair well with Swedish crisp bread. I also put a few slices in my Norwegian waffles. So good. I'm glad to see this once hard to find item now available here and I've been ordering them regularly.

Product ruined - Replace or Refund?
Received package which was in a foil bubble pack envelope with an ice gel pack. The melted gel pack broke open in shipment and the cheese packages (2) were coated with sticky slime. I tried to rinse them off with water and the cheese blocks were mushy. Obviously this product is now bad and apparently ineligible for return. Still looking into replacement if possible. No option for replacment. Not happy.

Tastes good
My mother is Norwegian and had previously ordered Gjetost on Amazon. Fast delivery on ice so it was kept cold all through transit. Though small blocks, she is super happy to have her breakfast stable.

Small town
I ordered this cheese a couple of days after hurricane Laura hit. When it arrived it was warm and greasy. When I contacted the seller, I was sent another package, this time it still was a little cool, so it is still good. I live in a very small town in Louisiana, and to have gourmet cheese is such a treat. Most definitely will do business again.

Happy to be able to get this here in the US
Our favorite afternoon snack from Norway is now available to us here in the US. We make waffles and this is the favorite cheese to top them with along with strawberries. Nothing like having a little bit of home, here. Arrived quickly with an ice pack. Great purchase.
