Like cedar wood :) It is 100% natural cedar wood from FSC certified production. The smell can be recovered over and over again by roughening up the surface with a piece of sandpaper every 3-6 months.

Not sure about carpet beetles but it killed off the carpet moths. I find this really decent stuff.

Can these be used in a pantry around food

Yes as no chemicals in them they are just made of pure wood, but not sure what if any benefit they give, as they are supposed to repel clothes Moths, not sure they do anything for other moths or insects, they don’t have a strong cedar smell at all, can’t smell them in a wardrobe with 12 in so I doubt they would be noticed in a food cupboard.
