I don't see it working on anything that isn't a flat non porous surface without some kind of added adhesive.

How rough is the material? Would it be possible to get a small sample?

Feels rougher and thicker than the vinyl sold at fabric stores or Walmart as vinyl that is typically used to cover upholstery. It's about a millimeter thick in spots. I say spots because the texture is up and down. The thickest parts are about 1.5 other are .7. it's pretty thick stuff. Doesn't feel very sticky but I haven't applied it yet. I don't see it sticking to anything that isn't a flat clean unporous surface but we shall see. Feels solid across the top has a tiny bit of give under that hard surface where it should be able to be moldable I bit...I wouldn't try to do any serious bends with it.

Could i use this to wrap a speaker box

Yes no problem I have used it for wood and aluminum

Clean the surface well with alcohol and it should stay stuck. I have had mine on my Jeep for a year now and have taken it offroad, covered it in mud and pressure-washed it off with no issues.
