The Pilgrim's Progress: Both Parts and with Original Illustrations

I have always loved this first. This is a great book which includes both the original story and the next story. Love it!

This is outstanding work! I read it when I was in my teens & recently got a few more of these books to share & re-read. It's amazing how the path is just like how the author wrote way back then. He has a wonderful testimony. Must read for all!!!!

It was recommended to me years before I was ready for it, but I'm SINCERELY glad I finally read it! Especially given it's history. The outcome of the story gave me more hope, happiness, & understanding than I could've possibly expected, It's possible my faith & life are better now because of it!

Next to the Bible, this was probably the book most often read by common people in England, the British American Colonies, and the United States from its first publication until the US Civil War.This edition has both Bunyan's books that describe the man, "Christian," and his and his wife's epic journeys to reach the Celestial City. The book is filled with phrases and recognizable figures of speech that soon became part of everyday language, most still used today. The storyline illustrates how against all adversities it is possible for good men and women to achieve a heavenly state of happiness. As such, it has a solid place in "quest" literature.Bunyan uses this story to reach the religious nonconformists during the aftermath of the beheading of Charles I when broader religious freedom exploded across England, only to be again suppressed after the restoration of the monarchy. It was not easy for common person at that time to read and interpret the Bible as an individual without significant persecution and societal rejection.The book is valuable to study both for historical contexts and personal insights. Although the language is slightly archaic, added explanatory notes prove helpful.Perhaps this book offers some critical insights into the cultures and traditions of Protestant believers and churches in England and America. A great addition to any library.

"The Pilgrim's Progress" was my favorite book growing up. My grandmother used to read to me from it every night. I recently got the urge to reread John Bunyan's classic, but couldn't find it in the books my dad sent me months earlier, so I naturally turned to Amazon. My dad sent me an Amazon link to the exact version I had as a youngster, but I learned that there was also a second book to this classic, and I wanted more than just the picture version of the book, so I settled on this version. I'm glad I did; I'm very happy with this purchase. It's hard cover and the design on the front is pretty cool. I can follow and understand the antiquated English, for the most part, and if there's a word that stumps me, I just look it up in the free online dictionary/thesaurus. So far, I'm really getting into the story. I started reading the book the day it arrived and had a hard time putting it down. It's nice that there's a list of the scriptures in the back that are cited in the book and reprints of all the original pictures scattered throughout the book. Although I found a few typos, I still highly recommend this book.

But once I did, I understood that meeting and overcoming obstacles ,has a great reward at the end of our life. Christian meets many doubters and even leaves his family behind in the pursuit of Christ. Their are evil people all along his journey trying to fool him and persuade him to take another path but Christian stands firm and prays for guidance. It took me a while to read but I finally got to the end.

Nothing like a good practical book that give you lessons for life. This is it, real human struggles and understanding of normal human behaviour, which at the end is what help as you to become better people.
