Stay: A Girl, a Dog, a Bucket List

I read this book to my 3 year old after picking it up at our library. By the middle of the book the tears started, and at the last sentence I completely lost it. I’m talking sobbing. What a precious last sentence. So heartwarming. This is the sweetest children’s book I’ve ever read. I bought a copy right then and there. It remains my favorite book in my son’s collection.

I LOVE this book. It is so sweet, and a bit of a tear jerker. My two year old son loves it, and it’s such a good account of growing up with a dog. I bought this as a gift, and it came with the book jacket on upside down and one of the pages totally bent and crinkled. That was super disappointing, since i don’t have time to exchange it. Of course, the book jacket just needed to be flipped around, but that just showed how they did not take care in packaging it.

This is the second copy that I bought. I just loved how this book captured so much of how it is to grow up with a dog. I read it for the first time with my daughters with bittersweet memories of my own dog who has long since passed away. This second copy will be a gift to a good friend whose lost her pet recently.

Sweet story about a girl and her aging dog. I heard it read aloud and, having an elderly and waning dog at home, it hit me right in my feelers. I blinked back my tears and decided I needed this book in my own library.

This is the sweetest book ever! I bought copies for all my favorite girls who love their dogs with all their heart! It's a very special book for Birthday presents. A beautiful story for girls of all ages with amazing illustrations!

Adorable. I got this as a gift for my 5-year-old granddaughter who absolutely loves dogs. She can't read it all yet, but loves having it read to her.

Sweetest book. Makes me cry every time. Such a good message and easy way to talk to kids about death.

Pourtant on aime les animaux dans la famille.Elle et moi avons trouvé les dessins moches, et l'histoire n'a pas de moralité precise: ATTENTION SPOILER :) la gamine a passé son début d'enfance avec son chien, à la fin il est vieux et elle n a pas le temps de faire les choses sur la liste des 2/3 trucs à faire avec lui qu elle a rédigée (quand elle a appris du jour au lendemain que son chien était vieux, les parents étant absents de l'histoire pour expliquer quoi que ce soit...)On ne nous montre pas vraiment de moments de complicité entre la fille et le chien, l histoire est très courte donc on ne sait rien des personnages qui ne sont pas attachants, même le chien (Très court,5 mn à voix haute)Amoureux des chiens comme nous qui en avons deux, passez votre chemin, mieux vaut expliquer vous même comment respecter son loulou et lui rendre l'amour qu'il vous donne.

Reading this book I remember my good old bully who left us last week. The words are soft and the drawings are beautiful, which makes this book a good healer for broken hearts. This is especially true for young souls, who get for the first time the taste of the salt of life. Grownups like me, who kept a secret corner for Saint Exupéry’s “little prince” in their heart, might enjoy this book too.
