This is my first KastKing rod purchase and I must say first impressions definitely matters. It was delivered on time and shipped inside a sturdy black rod tube that was inside an Amazon Box. The rod was very well packaged and no problems at all. Guides were intact and the rod has no dings or scratches. Other rod companies should take note of this to mitigate damages during shipping.I'll be plunking for salmon and steelhead around the Pacific Northwest rivers and putting it to the test soon. It's a beautiful looking rod, light weight, and under $100. However the real test is how it handles during the fight of the fish and that will be the final verdict. If all goes well I plan on picking up the 10' MH model.I personally like my rod seat to tighten from the bottom to the top. This one tightens from top to bottom. I won't be casting constantly using a plunking setup but pointing this out for other potential customers.Also, my Amazon delivery drivers have always treated my packages with care and respect so shout out to them. Absolutely amazing strength and quality! The rod looks and feels great! Super light for the power it has and I use it for catfishing not surf fishing. One of the best catfish rods you can get stay away from catfish sumo chop stick if you plan to catch big cats or just period!.. they are like a ultralight compared to these rods! I got the 8ft MH but I know the 7'6 MH would be great too. Pair it with a rekon 5000 and you'll haul in just about anything you set the hook in. They pair great together! If your looking for a catfish rod this is the one! It will handle the 8oz weight casting like it's nothing! I don't know why the spinning rod medium Heavies are almost all sold out. Boy I hope they don't stop making them!

Makes a great catfish rod for those river monsters. I could also see how this would make a great inshore saltwater fishing rod as well. Very strong and beautifully made. I will probably end up buying a smaller size later on for a second large fish setup.

light weight and strong

I’ve been using the 10’ Kong medium heavy for about 3 months now. I’ve primarily used it in the surf with the kapstan SE 5000. This is an extremely versatile rod and when paired with this reel it’s even better. The feel is great for what the size and weight rating. In freshwater I use it with a 2.5 oz egg and in the salt I’m using a 5 oz pyramid. The loading range is great (2-8 oz).In freshwater I use it for catfish. In the future I’ll target salmon with it. The length and power is perfect for this. In the surf I’ve been using it for leopard shark, rays, and guitar fish. It’ll be great for striper and white sea bass too which i intend on targeting. I can’t recommend this rod enough. If you need distance and want to target big fish it’ll hold it’s own. I love my ugly stik big water but this rod is so much lighter and easier to travel with.

I've surf fished all my life, but within the last few years I've developed a real passion for it. From Rhode Island stripers to Florida pompano to California surf perch I target whatever is in season wherever my travels take me. I have a collection of older 'yard sale' rods, and some are still quite stout and usable, but I wanted something with more more modern construction materials and with features that support braided line, etc. I was recommended a couple of rods, but they were in the $300 dollar range and beyond what I wanted to spend on a travel rod that gets used and abused in transit. I'm a value-seeking guy and I've purchased some of the Kast King reels before and been very happy with them, so I opted to try out the 10' Kong recently in the Florida surf. Wow! This rod casts wayyyy farther than any of my other rods because of it's light action, but it's HD construction allowed me to haul in a couple of 3 ft sharks without it flinching! Importantly, the reel seat is sturdy and when fighting a monster won't let your reel flex while cranking. It may not be the lightest-weight surf rod around (but not heavy by any means!) but for value this baby gets my 5 star rating all the way! Hint: Pair it with a 5000 Kast King Sharky Baitfeeder III and get ready for the most pleasurable surf fishing of your life!

We bought this rod to use for larger species lake and river species, like salmon, but my son has plans to use it for carp or catfish too. The length of the rod and the long handle section looks perfect for shore or surf fishing as well. The action is really nice for casting long distances with heavy lures or bait. The rod is by far the longest and most heavy duty rod we own, for its size however, it feels rather light in the hand. We put a 4000 series reel on it, but it seems small on this rod, and we can easily switch to a larger size and have the balance and extra line capacity we need for casting or reeling in. The grip has a nice feel to it, and the reel fits well in the reel seat. The colored rod tip does give better visibility when shore fishing, and the line guides all look really heavy duty. Now we just need to hook into some large fish with this rod and see how it holds up under pressure. The 10 ft rod we ordered is a 2-piece rod and came well packaged and arrived in perfect condition. Fantastic rod for catching big catfish. I caught four 5-7lb channel cats my first day out with it yesterday. Def recommend this things solid, competes with some of those fancier rods like madkatz and hellcat.Edit: just wanted to update my review, I've now caught several 20lb catfish on this rod, and one 35lb blue cat. It bends well and I thought I was going to high stick it when I got that 35 lb blue into the shore (I was bank fishing with it) but it just doesn't break even though it's so darn light. It's like 1/3 the weight of my ugly stik big water.
