I was skeptical but now a fan
I have a wide variety of kitchen knives. For a decades I've sat down every month or so and sharpened them on my diamond block. Also made sure to use a steel often to keep their edges clean and straight.I also have half a drawer full of random sharpening devices. Some tore the blades, some were too much effort compared to a block, some did nothing at all even with a lot of work. The Furi is a great little gadget. I was skeptical but it was <$20 so I took the chance especially after all these great reviews. This (cheaper) version is fairly small and compact. The flower petal design has the flaps peeling away from the sharpening fingers. As previously mentioned, I can see the smaller flaps eventually breaking off. When you pull the knife across the fingers, there's just the right amount of abrasion. You can feel the 'grab' and even a slight grind of the knife on sharpener. 3 swipes and you're good. It doesn't give a super fine sharpened edge as using graduated grit stones. but it's impressively practical.Good:- Sharpens a standard knife really well, fast, and without skill.- Grinding range is very good: from about .5 inch from the hilt to the very tip of the blade.- Easy to use.- Cheap.- This is a good gift for friends that like to cook.Notes:- I wouldn't pull a thin or over-sharpened blade over this. You might tear the blade. For instance, my Mac santoku knife wouldn't do well with this.- Wonder how long it will last with all of my sharpening. Might have to upgrade to the nicer version.- Won't do serrated knifes.

The easiest, best and fastest knife sharpener on the market!
When I bought a Furi knife after seeing it on a TV infomercial, the Furi sharpener came with it. I assumed that the sharpener probably would be a piece of crap, but I was so wrong. The sharpener works so well that I have given away all of my other sharpeners, including my Chef's Choice sharpener, which admittedly is an excellent machine. I have since bought 3 other Furi sharpeners -- one for travel (I don't travel without one), one for our place in Palm Desert (which we rent out for much of the year and return to find the knives dull), and another as a back-up sharpener. It is an amazingly easy and effective sharpener. Whenever we rent a home or condo on vacation, the knives in the kitchen are invariably dull, most having been washed in the dishwasher -- an absolute no-no for fine cutlery. With just 10-15 swipes through the sharpening blades, most knives are honed to exceptional sharpness. Sharpening an entire kitchen of knives takes less than 5 minutes, including the steak knives.I am an experienced cook and insist on using sharp knives. Nothing else simply will do. Furi definitely gets the job done!I have noticed some reviews that say the Furi removes too much metal. Those complaints simply are NOT TRUE! The Chef's Choice removes MUCH more metal, whereas the Furi hones the cutting edge like a professional chef's sharpening steel, only more easily, faster, and with significantly greater control. My kitchen knives are absolutely top quality, so I would not use anything that harmed the edge or shortened the knives' useful lives. I have used the Furi for at least the past 10 years, and doubt that I will ever use anything else on my knives, or on whatever we find when we travel. Simply the BEST!

I like it!
I did some research for a simple, no nonsense sharpening tool for my kitchen knives. There are a lot of high-end sharpeners out there but I find that sometimes the simple things work almost as well. I'm not a chef or even a hobby cook (although I can cook if asked to). What I wanted was a simple sharpener for the kitchen that worked as well as the sharpeners found in the hunting and fishing catalogs but that was compact, reasonably priced, and worked well.I ordered the Ozi and after being back ordered for a couple of weeks received it in the mail this afternoon. I took it out of the package, glanced at the instructions for opening and using it and in a couple of minutes was working on my first knife; a 30 year old Chicago Cutlery knife that hasn't been properly sharpened in years. It took a few minutes of work but the blade is now sharp as new. I then went through all the knives in our kitchen drawers that we use regularly. In less than 20 minutes they were all sharp. My wife just finished cooking a processed ham for Christmas dinner tomorrow; the kind with the skin that is pretty tough. I used one of our slicing knives that I knew from past experience would not work on this ham. TaDa! With the knife sharpened in the Ozi is sliced through with no problems. Playing card thin slices were easy. If it dulled at bit, I swiped it through the Ozi a couple of times and it cut through the skin with no problem.I don't normally write reviews like this but was so impressed with the results that I thought I'd share them. Yes the case is not built like Fort Knox but it works. I find that the vertical side makes a nice guide to land the blade in the fingers every time. This tool does what it claims. I don't know how long the diamond dust will last on the fingers, but if it's anything like the diamond dust hand sharpener I bought to do my daughter's hockey skates, it will last a long time and save me $$'s.Merry Christmas!

Does the job
This is a good knife sharpener with a couple of minor issues.Pros:- Folds up to be nice and compact - fits easily into a drawer- The clips on the side fold out to serve as finger guards. If you hold this right, it is almost impossible to accidentally cut yourself.- It sharpened even the dullest of our knivesCons:- It sometimes takes quite a bit of work to pull the knife through the "fingers", especially with thicker knives. Maybe I'm pushing the knife down too deep?- Sharpening can sometimes be a slow process, compared to other methods- Sharpener feels a bit flimsy (but hasn't broken yet, so maybe it's just the appearance)
