Iceland: The finest coastal and mountain walks - GPS (Rother Walking Guide)

Excellent book, easy to use, many circular walks.
I must admit I am surprised about the earlier poor reviews of this book and can only assume that an earlier version was not up to scratch. This book however is just what I need. It has a clear overview map showing the location of the walks, colour coded to indicate difficulty so that you can ignore those that you are not interested in. Each walk has a small (and slightly limited) profile showing the elevation gains/drops and is written in good English. Most of the walks are circular walks (as opposed to the Cicerone Iceland book which contains a lot more one-way walks. You can even download all the walks to your GPS from the Rother website. All in all, a great book for my upcoming holiday.

with some little more that the stroll to the tourist attraction (Dynjandi in the West Fjords is a good example). All that said
The walks in the book are primarily well marked (and in some cases very popular) trails, with some little more that the stroll to the tourist attraction (Dynjandi in the West Fjords is a good example). All that said, it's a useful guide and a good way to plan your trip around Iceland if you fancy doing a short to medium walk. We did 8 of the walks during our 11 day camper trip and worked pretty well. You'll know it's translated from German (some German words in there still) but reads well. Didn't find too many inaccuracies.

Good book with very useful maps and walks
Good book with very useful maps and walks, the GPS routes also came in handy on a few low viability days. Lots of good recommendations although a few are just round the big tourist spots. Well worth having the book as the best English guide I could find for day walks in Iceland.

Excellent walking guide
Excellent guide. We did many of the shorter walks and found them fairly easy to follow and great for getting away from the crowds and seeing some superb landscapes. To help navigate, I downloaded the GPS files and loaded the walks to my mobile phone and used these as local maps in Google Maps. This worked really well and gives you extra reassurance, although most routes were well marked on the ground, and in many cases the local campsites have simple maps of walks available.

Descriptions good, but mapping weak which caused some interesting excursions
Got us to look at different areas, but not all the walks were as exciting as they made out to be. Descriptions good, but mapping weak which caused some interesting excursions, which to be fair were probably more interesting. Overall glad we bought it as we might have missed some interesting country.

Neat little guidebook for hikes in Iceland
Very clear and helpful book for places to explore in Iceland - we found it very helpful and informative. It provided lots of details about how difficult each walk was, how to get to the trailhead, etc. Definitely recommend it

not great
I bought this to give me some ideas of walks in the south west of Iceland, however the book seems to concentrate on a number of areas, rather than having a section on SW, NW, SE, etc with a number of walks in each which means its ultimately disappointing. The overview of each walk is quite useful.
