Q: Will they fit 70 hp merquary boat engine

I am not sure. ( I am not a boat mechanic, I work on motorcycles ) Does it have a carburetor - can you remove the air filter ? If it does have a carburetor and you can remove the air filter, the boots that come with Carb Synchronizer will fit just about any carburetor out there. Hope this helps.

Q: are adapters available for smaller throats, ie: 1-3/8" or 36mm?

My measurements are with an engineer's scale. The far left piece is the part you would want to push into the carb throat. It is about 1.28" (33 mm) across in the bore. the tip of the piece is rounded almost 90 degrees (fully rounded over) and has about a 0.15" (3.8 mm) radius of curvature - so to jam it in you would need 37-39mm. You can probably effect a seal because it is pliable rubber and you will be pushing it against the carb throat - the annulus of the unit is still smaller than your 36mm. I like this unit because the UniSyn if screwed down in its adjustment can overly restrict the flow. there is no adjustment on this one, which is nice. I usually leave the trumpets on my car, so they are a bit wider. So a toss-up here. You can probably get it to seal alright if you press it in carefully. Good luck.
