Ferrocerium Fire Steel Drilled Hole 130mm x 12.7 (Huge)

it got here a day early which was nice,like a tool i tried to spark it up straight away ,then realised it was coated with a protective coat of paint ,i used a crap blunt pen knife (it was early in the morning i was just about awake ) then tried a different striker (a blunt hack saw blade...from a different fire lighter kit) and ooh sparks , then a fairly good knife and thought that will do (seemed pretty good) going to go out doors for new years eve (usually damp and cold over here to start a camp fire ..so far it seems far better than the ones from outdoor shop for camping .would be a five star review ,but i have to test it the worst conditions (it will probably pass) ;) as long as i dont fall over drunk in the freezing cold again ha ha

Great Big Ferro Rod at a competitive price..? It would seem that way until you compare it to 'the named brand' of a similar size.Named brand is just over 5 inches (130mm) - this one, just shy (125mm)But, the biggest differance is performance - The named brands recipe seems to give more sparks which last longer!Bonus - The named brand seems to take less damage (smoother strike-surface) after the same amount of strikes.Conclusion: This has an inferior mix of metals, so only gives 10,000 strikes rather than 12,000 stikes at a lower heat. (for the same price?)Answer: Drop the price or give two (as pictured) / Sweeten your Deal!

Arrived within timescale, as described and adequately packaged. Quickly added a cord lanyard using the pre-drilled hole. Easier to grip than my “normal” sized rods and (once the protective coat is removed) throws a great shower of sparks and shavings. A good item which should last for years and years if you can resist the temptation to whittle away at it for the sheer fun of it.

Great size and easy to get sparks. This is a soft ferrocerium. What that means is that you have to apply pressure and speed to get the sparks. Hard compositions you can strike slowly but with soft you get nice big globules of burning metal which kind of makes startimg fires easier with the right kindling.

Very high quality, gives good, strong sparks and it is easy to handle.I recommend that you make a handle for it ,then it is easier to use.A must for a outdoorman who wants fire for sure.

Very good quality large ferrocerrium rod shedding great sparks! The drilled hole allows for maximum striking surface and belt attachment with a bungee cord lanyard.
