Great for a training treat.
When I'm training a dog and using treats as a reward, I want something that is soft and can be easily, and quickly, consumed, so the dog's attention can be quickly back on me rather than chewing the treat, and I use this for it. It is firm enough to hold together, but soft enough the dog can, basically, just swallow it and look to me for more.I will cut a slice about 1/2" thick, and cut that up into cubes about 1" square that I can break small pieces off of to use. I cover the sliced end with saran wrap, covering it firmly, secure it with a rubber band, and keep it in the refrigerator.I like the beef one over the chicken, the chicken is a little crumbly to try working with it. Nothing wrong with it as a product, just too soft for what I use it for.I've used it for years. Very satisfied with it.

Not A Love Connection
I have a Presa Canario and and am working with a trainer currently. My dog is 150#, so treats go fast. I bought these as a slightly less expensive alternative to Happy Howie's, which my dog likes. My dog did not, however, like these nearly as much. It has low moisture levels which results in a crumbly texture. This is fine if it's used as a meal topper but less so as a training treat. It smells no better or worse than any other dog treats.... actually a little better to a human nose but I'm not sure if that's a good or bad or neutral indicator of how good they are. These didn't make the cut for training treats for my dog, so I ended up using to the roll over time as a meal topper, for which I think it's better suited.

Healthy, portable treats
My dog has eaten this for almost 3 years as a supplement/treat added to her dry food. Our vet says its healthy and my girl loves the taste. I make things slices and use them as rewards when training or walking. Healthy, high quality food is a must for our 4-legged babies!

Not for training treats
If you’re looking for something to cut into cubes for training, this ain’t it.I tried the green “with grain” and it was super dry and crumbly. I tried this red grain free, it’s absolutely disgusting. It’s also impossibly crumbly, but also sticky-gummy. I had to put it in a bag for my training pouch, and then had to grab handfuls of crumbs to roll into a ball. The stuff is sticky like wet cookie dough, it’s impossible as treats. Is it a dog food? Gah, I don’t know why you would, but maybe? This form factor is shelf stable, high value training treats and this brand just fails at that goal. Back to cooking and cutting steak.

This was a big package. I know it said 3 lbs, but it was big! My dog loves this treat.
My dog is going through puppy classes for general obedience. I was told to bring "high-value" treats, i.e. "stinky", to get my dog to perform on cue and get rewarded. This brand was particularly recommended by the dog trainer. We have done 5 classes together now and I still have half a roll left, and that's with giving out a LOT of treats during the hour long classes when my dog does what I ask. He loves the taste. I hold it close to his nose to get his undivided attention, then he's watching my hand and listening to me so he can earn the treat. I will say during our leash walking class outside, a squirrel did take his attention away from the treat for a couple minutes. I had to double up to hold his attention. I store the roll in the fridge and cut several discs, and then into smaller pieces, which I then roll into balls. I tried just pinching the small pieces together, but in Colorado's dry air, they became crummy unless I rolled them into tight balls. I kept them in tiny plastic snack bags during class and they didn't dry out. I store them back in the fridge until the next time we want to work on tricks or if I just want to treat my dog for no reason.
