Bes FIB223 10 Fish Chain and 18"" Retriever

Mine is coming in the mail, but I recently used one that belongs to a friend of mine. I've been fishing wires for the better part of a decade now, and only just now came across this amazing tool. First let me say, that if you know what you're doing, fishing inside walls is not too difficult a thing, however there are times when luck just isn't on your side and you wind up losing precious time fruitlessly trying to grab a wire you 'know' is where you think it is, but for some reason, is 'not' where you think it is!With that said, I was amazed at how efficient this extremely simple concept is, a magnet and a metal string. You simply drop the chain in the wall and wiggle the magnet around a few times and voila, the work is 90% done. This is an extreme time saver, and I can't wait til mine arrives on Monday, so I can get to using it!Update 9/3/12 I've had it for around a week now and so far it's living up to my expectations. I've saved myself a great deal of aggravation just this past week of using this tool. The simplicity and efficiency of this thing is simply blowing my mind. I do have a couple of very minor gripes though. The Noodle is really stiff - a LOT stiffer than I thought. It could benefit from a little little reduction in stiffness which would lend it greater flexibility. The second thing is, the noodle has one end with the magnet in it while the other end is threaded, presumably so one could extend the reach of the noodle. My problem - I spent a few minutes fishing around for the chain wondering why it was being so elusive. I pulled the noodle out, and realized I was using the wrong end, stuck the right end in and the chain was on the magnet first pass. So, yes I realize I should've been paying attention, but maybe this thing could do with some kind of marking to distinguish the two ends, but in the long run, that's nothing a sharpie can't cure.

I have read the reviews before buying; let me set the record straight. I have worked in the commercial low voltage field for a long time, whether it's fishing wires for intrusion, access control, network, fire, etc. The device is meant to help the user get to point A to point B. the chain itself is not made to handle tons of stress pulling cables. Typically I'll use this device with a pull string attached to the chain, using pull string to actually pull cables to the desired location. If you're looking to replace or want to upgrade the chain, local hardware stores carry ceiling fan chains that handle a bit more than the original chain provided. Overall the product is of good quality and does, in fact, perform as desired.

Old boy I wish I had these working on my previous job when I just use fish sticks I mean the difference is night and day you go down an empty wall with just a small hole on both ends and you can run a wire wherever you want

I bought this because I worked with a guy who had one. I had to get one. Now I save time fishing wires through walls too. Way easier than blindly dropping a wire or string down and using a hook to try to find it.

This thing is absolutely amazing it allows you to run cables through the wall and grab them with a chain and magnet . I run lots of cables for lots of different applications and this particular item has come in handy so many different times it’s a lifesaver. It’s way better than a fish tape and can manipulate around corners it also can be finished down a wall without any other tools and grab it with the magnet even if it doesn’t line up with the other Hole directly.Pro: very versatile in many different environments , compact easy to carry , magnet can be used for multiple different things besides this particular application it sold for .Cons : sometimes the chain doesn’t move smoothly in the wall . Some wire is difficult to attach to the end of the chain

I love this for running wire in walls.

I used this to pull some speaker wire through the walls in my house. Dropping down vertical into the wall the magnet could easily pickup the chain & pull it out the drilled hole. I also tried to pull some wire horizontally in the wall which was much more challanging .
