Yes you can use this for aquaponics but you may want to look into clay pebbles as well.

I doubt it. They are very light even when wet. I've used them as a potting medium for cymbidium orchids and they support the plants well without adding a lot of weight but I would not use them as a ground cover or mulch.

Q: How does 25" x .14" x 4.5" equal 28 liters?

I guess they're referring to the size of the bag? This seems wrong to me. Bag is more like 25" x 14" x 4.5". I have used a bit so i can't get an accurate measurement.
