An extraordinary exploration of urban sketching today
In this beautiful volume, Stephanie Bower showcases the work of more than 150 Urban Sketchers in almost 40 countries across the globe. I am deeply impressed by this update to The Art of Urban Sketching, the seminal book by Gabi Campanario, founder of Urban Sketchers, dedicated to on-location sketching from direct observation. The World of Urban Sketching is comprehensive in its scope, celebrating new artists and revisiting many of those integral to the initial growth of the Urban Sketching movement. The reader tours the world one city at a time meeting the artists who share their stories, sketches, tools, tips and techniques. There is also a section on how sketchers adapted to the global pandemic, when meeting as a group for on-location sketching was not possible, continuing to create art, build community, and inspire others. The beauty of Urban Sketching is its emphasis on recording one’s experiences of the world through direct observation, connecting with and supporting others, and appreciating every individual’s unique take on their surroundings, creating community through art, locally and internationally. This book manages to capture a sense of the energy, freshness, and optimism that is such a huge part of urban sketching.Whether new to urban sketching, a seasoned sketcher, or a non-artist interested in seeing the world through others’ eyes, one sketch at a time, this book is an enjoyable read and an invaluable resource.

Stephanie Bower is the best instructor. You will not be disappointed.
Stephanie Bower is the best teacher. You will easily change your abilities. Best is that she teaches you how to understand perspective. Suddenly everything falls into place and the "ahah" "I get it now" helps you improve your drawing ability. Adding touches of beautiful watercolor is the best. She is the best teacher I have ever had. Thanks Stephanie!

Highly Recommended: Journey into the World of Urban Sketching
Stephanie Bower has done an excellent job putting together a great collection of urban sketches. They're not only beautiful to look at but also teach you something. In this book, you'll find all kinds of drawing styles, from loose and artistic to very detailed and precise. Each drawing shows a different way of looking at a place, and the book lets you peek into the lives and creative processes of people who draw city scenes from all over the world.

Great diversity of places
This book was great! The diversity of places from around the world gave a real insight into different styles, cultures and techniques. And I loved it that the sketches were accompanied by small snippets about the various sketchers themselves. That said, while it's understandable that much of 'urban sketching' involves sketching buildings... it was a little disappointing to me that the majority of the sketchers were working as architects, urban designers, landscape architects, etc. In other words, most of the sketchers had a wealth of experience in their work lives that gave them 'mega-skills' from the get-go when they joined Urban Sketchers. I couldn't help but wonder what the differences would have been with the sketches had there been more diversity in the backgrounds of the sketchers.

Fabulous book for the Urban Sketcher
This book is filled with full color, illustrations by various Urban Sketcher’s. It gives a brief history of the Urban Sketcher, him or herself and samples of their art in locations throughout the world. Many sections include tips on creating the pieces that are illustrated in the book, including what types of pen, paper, and color, the artist used. I love this book!
