If i fit this between switch and lights will the switch work without the remote

You will have 2 switches on the same light - both will need to be on for the light to be on. You could leave the switch permanently on and use the remote to control the light.

How does this fit into a ceiling rose?

This remote switching device will not fit into a ceiling rose.. It is designed to fit into a 25mm back box. It needs a live and neutral input and a live and neutral to the light fitting.
