Very Pleased, Would Highly Recommend
I've now used these several times, and love them! They are plenty long enough to go through the entire potato (standard baking potatoes), and are very sturdy. I have a feeling they are going to last a very long time.I don't notice any taste coming off of the nails - being stainless steel, I wouldn't expect them to, but I had never purchased potato nails before, so I wasn't absolutely certain what to expect. The convenient carrying tube is a nice touch - it's a plastic tube with a rubbery cap that holds the nails while you're not using them. It keeps them all together so they don't get lost in the drawer, and keeps them nice and clean - no need to wash them again before your next use.The last thing I'll note is their effectiveness. They have done an excellent job of assisting in the cooking...not once have I had an underdone potato. They've all turned out nice and fluffy, just like you want in a good baked potato. I used to suck at making the things - always leaving the inside a little crunchy. That has certain changed - I now prefer my potatoes to those served at the restaurants (Outback Steakhouse, 54th Street Bar and Grill, etc.).All in all, it's true that these are a little pricy, but they're worth it.

spuds spikes
I emailed Spud's Spikes inquiring about how to get their potato nails at a more appropriate, affordable price. The competitors prices are far less than Spud's Spikes. I asked for free shipping or a discount code? I have been considering potato nails for awhile but I just couldn't justify paying that money for 4 nails. So Spud's Spikes replies with a generic mission statement saying why their product is priced two to ten times over their competitors. And out of the kindness of their hearts, sent me a $2 discount code for their 4 pack of nails at $30. That is a slap in the face. So I went ahead and ordered a double pack to get them a little cheaper, including 8 nails and split the cost with a friend. I was so intrigued at how they could market this product at such an inflated cost. I received the nails, split them with my friend and we both laughed at our potato nail investment. I've done experiment's with and without them and they barely, barely make a difference. Spud's Spikes sham wowed me. I own a restaurant and was going to order them in bulk, but the company wouldn't work with me at all on price. Glad I tried them first. 100% waste of money and I don't know what they are thinking trying to charge these prices. I was the guinea pig and tried them. You shouldn't bother, especially not at their foolish prices.

Made in USA and longer than others
In my many moves to various states, I lost the other ones I had. Potato nails performed so well that I bought many sets to give to others. I ordered this brand, which is a little more expensive, because they are made in the USA and because they are longer than most. These baking nails are 6" long, therefore allowing them to be inserted in the potato length-wise.This is a real plus for my family as we like larger baked potatoes. Inserting the nails length-wise allows for more even cooking of the potato. (The shorter ones could not be inserted through the length of the potato that made for uneven heating and longer baking time. I had to use 2 per potato.) The Spud Spikes are also long enough to accommodate wieners and sausages. I'm very excited to have these 6" nails. Have fun with them and happy eating!

What's Not To Like?
These potato nails are very nice. I decided to use a non-stick baking spray on the nails before stabbing the potatoes. The end result; the product accomplished the job it was advertised to do and did this well enough for me to leave this glowing review. Additionally, the non-stick spray allowed for the baking nails to be removed easily from the potato and cleaned up without much effort. This 2 pack offering is handy for getting the extra nails to use when you need them most and the reduced price was an added benefit. One advantage in having these extra nails are when you have larger than recommended potatoes for use with 1, 6 inch nail. In these circumstances, the instructions advise a person to use 2 nails per potato and insert them parallel through both sides of the potato. Overall, a highly recommended, outstanding USA made product.

I know, they're just potato nails....
But they're great potato nails. They do the job, they presumably are not imparting harmful stuff into my healthy sweet potatoes, and they come in a handy little tube so they don't get scattered all over my cooking gadget drawer. Sure they're pricey, but I am quite certain they are the last potato nails I'll ever buy, and they improve cooking times significantly. So I can't actually do the calculation, but if I use them for the rest of my life every time I bake a potato, I'm pretty sure the energy savings will balance out the cost. And if they don't do this by the time I depart from this world, maybe one of my heirs will acquire them and finish balancing the equation. In the mean time, I like them. I'd buy them again, but as I've pointed out, I won't have to....

I used aluminum potato nails and I have found that Spud Spikes are superior to the aluminum nails
In the past, I used aluminum potato nails and I have found that Spud Spikes are superior to the aluminum nails. Spud Spikes and made of stainless steel so they will not bend and healthy for us. They are also made in the USA. They cook potatoes evenly and are consistently delicious. I highly recommend this product and give it 5 stars.

spud spikes
I love the spud spikes. We've started to enjoy baked potatoes again. they were never as good in a microwave but who wanted to spend an hour or more baking potatoes. Now i just put the Spud spike in each potato, add a little olive oil, salt and garlic powder and in about 40 minutes we've got delicious potatoes and even the skin is tasty!!
