Great sharpener!
I bought this primarily for my colored pencils after noticing the wax would build up in my electric one. I like a very fine tip and the smaller manual sharpeners weren’t doing it for me. This one will give a super fine point for sure. It’s made of metal (except for the clear plastic shavings tray) so it’s pretty hefty. It comes with a clamp you can use to attach it to a table but I just hold it in one hand and crank with the other; the sharpener itself holds the pencil. There are a couple things to be aware of (especially if you have expensive colored pencils!)1: If you pull the pencil holder all the way out to put your pencil in for sharpening, this sharpener will eat a LOT of your pencil. What I do instead is pull it out a quarter inch or so and put my pencil in there. You’ll have to hold the position with one hand and insert the pencil with the other as the holder won’t ‘lock’ in this position. This should only require 3 or 4 turns of the handle before the pencil is pulled all the way in. Then you can pull it out, check your point and repeat the process until you get the sharpness you’re after. It’s a bit more work but worth it to avoid the loss of too much pencil!2: This sharpener has little teeth that hold your pencil in place and it will leave small dents on your pencils. This doesn’t bother me but if you’re concerned with keeping your pencils in as pristine a condition as possible, it’s something to be aware of. Perhaps wrapping some tape around the barrel a couple times before sharpening may prevent this but I’ve not tried it.3: The tray that holds the shavings sort of loosely snaps into place so it’s easy to remove for disposal. However this does mean that it’s not exactly sealed closed so if you travel with this sharpener be sure to empty it first or you will have a bag full of colorful shavings when you get where you’re going.4: This sharpener gives a long, sharp point with a lot of exposed lead. I have a soft hand so this is great for me but if you’re heavy handed or have extremely brittle pencils the tips will more than likely snap off. You can mitigate this by not sharpening the pencils completely, i.e. stop turning the crank one or two turns before the pencil is pulled all the way into the sharpener. This will still expose a lot of lead but will leave you with a thicker tip. You may have to play with it a bit to find what you like, but to me that’s kind of a bonus...you can sort of choose your own tip shape.Over all, I love this sharpener and would definitely buy it again.

Better than an Xacto and great for the classroom! I will buy more for other teachers
I have already bought and reviewed the RED sharpener, so I will copy my review below. This is the SECOND sharpener I bought, for another one of my team-mates because the kids kept coming into my room to sharpen my pencil. So far 3 out of 5 teachers have this sharpener and we will be getting the other 2 ones for Christmas. Minus one star because the clamp doesn't work quite well, but it isn't really a deal breaker for me, just a hassle. My 7th graders figured out how to use it quickly, and they can sharpen a pencil in no time with not a lot of noise. It sharpens even those plastic coated/wrapped pencils with ease that typically ruin sharpeners. Easy to clean, sturdy, and easy on the ears. The clamping mechanism is not the greatest, and I can not clamp it to a desk or table without it becoming all wonky (especially the tapered edges of our desks). However, this isn't as big of a deal breaker as it could be. I have bought $200.00 electric sharpeners with my own money only to have them crap out after 2 years, or the kids manage to do something so crazy (sharpen a pencil backwards when there is a substitute), to break the sharpener. This one probably can be broken but it looks like I can manage to fix it easily. This is the best money I have spent on a sharpener that gets pencils, even colored pencils, super sharp.

The ONLY sharpener I will ever buy again!
After 16 years of teaching elementary school students, I've wasting so much money on so-called electric "heavy duty" sharpeners, only to have them become useless after three months. Now, I finally found a sharpener that works, and this is it! This metal-constructed machine works on any kind of pencil whether it's made with nice wood, cheap wood, wood composite, painted, plastic coated, colored lead, you name it. I've tested them all, and the CARL Angel-5 sharpens them all to almost a needle point. But what the kids love is operating the sharpener. It's almost a source of entertainment for them! From now on, this is the only sharpener I will buy!

I bought two of these pencil sharpener's for my third-grade classroom because the electric ones just weren't lasting long enough not to mention the noise. I bought one for the boys and one for the girls and they are both working great! I had to demo the correct way to sharpen, but the students learned quickly. I will definitely buy these again.

Sharp pencils are a plus
Pencils have never been sharper. I really like this sharpener. However, after 1.5 months of use in my classroom, the face doesn't stay pulled out like it should and the crank keeps coming off. I'm not sure how durable it really is.

Kind of a "power tool" green
This sharpener works awesome! And the color is good for my workshop, similar to the green used in many power tool brands like Grizzly, General, etc.

Actually sharpens pencils well
This is the best pencil sharpener ever. I have purchased four so far. I'm giving one to members of my family. One negative word about a pencil sharpener, and then bap, I give them one of these and happiness reigns.
