Dave Gross' "Crawling the Walls" is a thrilling amalgamation between old and new. Firmly rooted in the Blues but not bound by any one brand, this new release is sure to excite anyone with a diverse musical palette. Staggering guitar and powerful, passionate vocals make this album a total knockout.

Very upbeat and fun
Very upbeat and fun , quite a pleasant album. It's hard for me to nail down the style of music but I will suggest blues meets ragtime meets... I can't put my finger on it! But it's fun for sure!

A Great, Great Album
A few years ago I saw Dave Gross at Warmdaddy's in Philadelphia. At the time, he was about 20 years old and I was pretty impressed that someone so young could be blessed with such impressive musicianship. I was certain that he had the potential to be a standard bearer for the blues for many years to come. Since that time, Dave has released two albums and I still think he will be a standard bearer for decades, but he is so different now and so much better than when I first saw him that the torch he will be carrying is not just for the blues but far more all-encompassing. Dave's latest effort, "Crawling the Walls" is a tour de force of blues, traditional jazz, Dixieland and rock and is a living, breathing example of Willie Dixon's famous statement, "The blues are the roots; everything else is the fruits." One might think that an album which incorporates so many different forms of American roots music might be a little unfocussed. However, Dave has provided us with an exceptional CD that proves the mixing of related styles can work well ...if one has the talent and the vision of this 23-year old master. Evident in this new CD are other sides of Dave Gross that go far beyond an unusual selection of material. His choice of musicians is outstanding and his arrangements are superb. His voice has matured and morphs into a different sound depending upon the material being sung. He continues to show that he is a gifted composer. Dave has also proven that he can be an exceptional producer as well (Dave has also produced Gina Sicilia's two albums). "Crawling the Walls" is an absolutely amazing album. My only problem ...how long will I have to wait for Dave's next CD? However long that is will be far too long for me. You'll feel the same way, too.

The Evolution of Dave
I have purchased all 3 of Dave's albums and it is amazing to see how his musical abilities and growth in styles has evolved. At 19 he was a Blues guy but not the usual Stevie Ray clone as he already had his own style. Now, at the ripe old age of 23, his style has grown into a stew that includes a dash of Stevie, but also incorporates generous helpings of Django Reinhardt, Charlie Christian, T-Bone Walker and many other seminal roots players. The result is a style that is unlike anyone else's on the music scene today and incorporates the ability to play just about any genre of roots music from Mississippi delta blues to swing to rock to jazz to you name it. Dave's new CD is an absolute triumph on a variety of levels. As always, his guitar chops are impeccable and among the best anywhere. His song selection is diverse and showcases his ability to excel in just about any musical form. The songs he has composed are interesting and mature beyond his years. His marvelous voice can morph from a roughed-up blues to almost crooner-like. As a producer and arranger this CD introduces us to a whole new range of his seemingly unending talents. If this is not the album of the year, it's certainly in the conversation. I can't wait for Dave's next album.

Absolutely Phenomenal
When I first listened to this CD, I was totally blown away. With each subsequent listen, I keep discovering new things I hadn't picked up on. There is no doubt in my mind that this is the album of the year. Dave Gross is one of the most accomplished blues guitarists in the world. This album also showcases his mastery not just of the blues, but traditional jazz, swing and rock. His talent seems to have no end as this CD also showcases his writing and arranging skills, a great and expressive voice that can deftly handle any music style ...and it also demonstrates his considerable ability as a world-class producer. Pretty amazing for someone only 23 years of age. Dave Gross will lead the roots genre for decades to come.
