gears not even perp to their respective axle
Some gears are welded out of place by 2 or 3 degrees so that they wobble in operation. In other words, a gear is not normal or perpendicular to its respective axle. The design might be good, but the construction is so bad I can't tell. Gonna return mine.Another thing, I'm quite skeptical of the load rating. This claims 3500 lbs, but all of the axles, plate steel, gears, palls, etc, are the same thickness as a 1500-lb Reese model that I'm replacing.McMaster-Carr has a better selection of "real" winches, albeit a lot more expensive.UPDATE: I ended up getting one of the Dutton-Lainson worm-drive winches. The very simple mechanism inspires much more confidence. With only two moving parts, much less can go wrong.

Great value!
What can I say? A rating of 3500 pounds, two gears, delivered to Central Texas within a week of ordering for less that $50 including delivery? It's a bargain so far, as long as it lasts for a useful length of time.I've fitted it to a hog trap trailer, where it will haul a hog trap in skids aboard via a ramp. There are two gears, so if it gets hard, you can change the handle to a lower gear. All cogs and axles have been lubed with graphite, the cable is smooth and was well stowed for delivery. It hasn't been tested all that much just yet, so if i need to change this review, believe me, you'll hear about it. So far, highly recommended!

It pulls my boat on the bunks much easier......
After I re-wound the winch to feed the correct way and un tangle the cable. The factory doesn't put much of any tension on the line when installing it, so shows up in a tangled jumbled mess on the reel. If a guy was to just put it on and tighten it without rewinding the spool it would do significant damage to the cable greatly diminishing the working load capacity of the cable and not getting the boat tight at all. If they do spool it nicely and tightly then they are shipping it without anything to keep the spool tight and it's coming loose in shipping. Otherwise great product.

Under Rated
Rated at 3400 lb. We put over 6000 lbs. on it. It held up great. The cable stretched, but didn't brake and the gears didn't strip out.

Poor materials and construction
Had to make repairs to this winch to use it after first day of use, and it broke irreparably after third day of use. I used this winch on a log hauling arch to move logs around 1500lbs. In the first day of use the drum began rubbing against the sides of the winch. This was due to the main body being made of an extremely soft steel. I had to redrill and install a larger bolt, use different bushings, and install spacers to fix this. Another fix would have been to weld the bolt so it couldn’t spin in the winch frame. On the third day, the drum split, which at this point I had to purchase a better winch. This winch may work for a light duty application seeing little use, but for any real use anywhere near the rated capacity, purchase a better winch

Poorly made, not worth the hassle
Jammed on first use. There was so much metal debris left over from the machining process that it took an hour to make it usable. Even then, very poor gear engagement. There is no way an experienced shop made this. I would have returned it but needed to use it immediately.

Used this for my auto deer feeder
Connected a cable system between to trees (carefully so as not to hurt the trees) and at the base of one of the trees I have this pully system so I can lower my auto deer feeder and add corn, batteries or change the schedule ... works great!
