I fell in love with Mo's voice from the very first page, and this turned out to be my favorite MG novel in ages. So funny, so deliciously fun, such a great cast of characters, such a fabulous setting and story…I loved everything about this novel. I can't wait to read the sequel!

I like gentle Southern humor with a touch of vinegar. For my money Bailey White leads the pack. Try a book like "Quite a Year for Plums: A Novel" or "Mama Makes Up Her Mind: And Other Dangers of Southern Living". But while these sorts of books have great appeal their characters and the characters' situations are probably not all that appealing to younger readers. Enter Miss Moses LoBeau. She is everything you would want in a narrator. Spunky, bright and deadpan funny, her story seems perfectly formed to capture the imagination of a young reader with a taste for southern fried humor and subtle but elegant writing. The tale is engaging, the style sparkles; there is an elegant reward on almost every page. This is a wonderful introduction to fine writing and a nice addition to the family library.

This was an engaging book - the characters were charming and the storyline kept a good pace. However, the author uses similes like they are going out of fashion. Everything was like something else - talk about overkill. It became extraordinarily tiresome after the first few chapters. Also, the book arrived damaged, like something had been scraped down the spine.
