It plugs into a USB port .I think you could buy a wall adapter separately.

will this work with 2020 volvo xc40?

I don’t know about the Volvo in particular, but if you’re trying to pair it via Bluetooth, I’d be sure to hold onto your receipt. I could not get the Bluetooth pairing to work at all with my wireless speaker, and neither could Amazon tech support. I sent mine back.

Why would you buy a CD player these days?

Because I own a stash of CDs of sentimental value that are no longer easily found. Additionally, if I get a cool box full of CDs from a used bookstore, I can hear what’s on them a whole lot easier by popping it into the player. Furthermore, that fifty year old person might know a thing or two about technology that is not yet comprehensible by a younger mind.

How long is the 3.5mm aux cord?

It's only approx 2 feet. We got the player, which btw is fantastic, but we changed the cord out for the Ugreen cord which is over 3 feet & very, very pliable. The cord itself is flat & will fit into the smallest space without crimping. You cannot go wrong with the player tho'...it is fantastic!!!!
