Works a described
I was spectacle of purchasing this cap because of the breakage rate, but I gave it a chance. Used this cap to drive a 30’ well and it worked great. I would purchase again.

Damages threads
Got this to prevent damage to the pipes on my sand point well while driving it into the ground with a sledgehammer, however it does the opposite. It bent one pipe but I was able to repair it, thinking I just didn't screw it on all the way I continued to use it, however it is now permanently connected to another pipe due to it removing the threads and bending the pipe. It hasn't broken apart but doesn't work as described. Save yourself the time and money and get a different product or just use a throw away coupling.

It did its job well
After repeated blows with a sledge hammer this drive cap remained effective, however one must check that it remains tight on the pipe threads or it will deform the pipe when struck with heavy hammer.

It is ok
These things work loose and then they strip the threads in the cap. I drove five 5' lengths and now it's ruined. I recommend just using the steel couplings to drive the pipe, rotating them out to connect separate lengths and using a new one to drive the next pipe.

Too big
I have used the Simmons drive cap to pound a well point and it has worked very well. No pun intended. The cap has prevented the threads on the pipe from being damaged and has not lost its shape through hitting. I had experienced thread damage with other caps to the point where I had to re-thread the pipe. The only reason that I didn't give the Simmons drive cap 5 stars was that it was too big for my driver. The driver is one I have used on another well and for fence posts. The cap was about a quarter inch too big to fit into the driver so I used a bench grinder to remove some of the round part of the cap nearest to the pipe threads. It took only a few minutes to do this and I only removed enough necessary to fit into the driver. It has had no effect on the usefulness of the cap. It has still worked as it should.

Use a coupling or legit well driver instead
Stripped all the threads on the pipe and became fused with the pipe to the point where it needs to be sawn off. Will most likely hammer a coupling or the piece of broken pipe instead to drive it down. Need to figure out how to pull the sand point and 5 feet of pipe that is already driven into the ground.

10 hits and 2 pieces
Fell apart after 10 swings of the hammer. I tightened it down to the 1 1/4" pipe to ensure it was seated properly, then after hitting it with a 4lb mallet (a light weight sledge hammer) it broke in two pieces, and wrecked the threads of the 3' pipe I had it attached to. I just ended up using the 3' piece of pipe as the driving point since it was already ruined.
