Disney Classic Crochet (Crochet Kits) Misc. Supplies – March 3, 2015

Overall, I am impressed by the quality of this kit. The kit includes enough yarn to finish two classic Disney projects, specifically Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck and after that, you will need to purchase additional yarn, fiberfill, floss, and felt to finish more characters. The kit does not say exactly what size the yarn is but it seems to be at most a 3 in weight and it appears to be acrylic and/or wool rather than cotton. I have also purchased the Peanuts kit and the yarn in the Disney kit seems to be a better quality. The colors of yarn included are: white, black, dark blue, yellow, and red. The felt included is black, light blue, and white. The floss is black and white and appears to be cotton. Also included is a tapestry needle (for the floss), an inexpensive crochet hook in size 4.00 (US G/6) and fiberfill. There are also fairly detailed instructions including many diagrams.While the yarn in this kit is very nice, I will be using my own stash to be sure that the sizes, colors, look, and feel of my characters are consistent. The instructions are detailed but I don't think that this is a project for most beginners. It uses techniques that crocheters with a bit more experience would feel comfortable with. If you are a beginner, just be sure you have access to someone or a website that can give you answers if you have any questions about the instructions.The book includes instructions for 12 Classic Disney characters which is outstanding. These include: Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy, Pluto, Chip 'n' Dale, Dumbo, Bambi, Lay, Pinocchio, and Jiminy Cricket. I have only one a complaint: if you are going to give us a Lady project, you should also have given us Tramp - they are a couple just as Mickey and Minnie and Donald and Daisy are couples. I was disappointed that Winnie the Pooh was missing from this kit until the designer let me know (in comments below) that Winnie was available in a separate kit along with 11 other characters from the Hundred Acre Wood. The characters are all quite recognizable and are sure to be a hit for any classic Disney fan. My entire family and especially my younger daughter have loved Disney for years so I will have a lot of fun crocheting these amigurumi characters. When we lived in Southern California (for many years), I always purchased season passes so we could go to Disneyland many times during the year.The hook is okay but I prefer to use my own for ergonomic reasons. The characters look to be fairly small - if you want to make them larger, use thicker yarn and larger hooks. The instructions should work well no matter the size. The tapestry needle is decent and works well for the embroidery purposes in the instructions. There are templates for the felt - which seems to be how the eyes and some other details are made. I will probably figure out how to embroider the eyes as I prefer that over felt whether it is glued or sewn on.The Peanuts kit had an issue in that they failed to give instructions for how to make the embroidery details that each of the characters requires. That is not true at all in this Disney book. While the instructions are not the best, they do give photos of the stitches in progress and also provide the names of the embroidery stitches you will use: long stitch, running stitch, back stitch, overcast stitch, and whip stitch. It should be fairly easy for you to find more detailed instructions on the Internet. I am already familiar with these stitches so the lack of great detail in this area is not an issue for me. There are also photographs showing how to add hair and made a twisted tail.On the whole, I really like the kit and the instructions and recommend it to an intermediate or above crocheter without hesitation. I have also purchased the Peanuts Kit and the Star Wars Kit by this company as well as the Winnie the Pooh Kit (which was distributed by another company and is being released exclusively on another site as I write this review.) All of the kits are of good quality and I have been enjoying crocheting the various characters.

i failed to read that this kit didn’t come with all the colors, just the colors to make mickey and donald. it’s my fault that i didn’t read that though. the booklet looks a bit confusing but i’m sure i can figure it out because i’m pretty crafty.

I am fairly new to crochet. I just learned how with the help of an intro to Amigurumi book that has fairly simple patterns that just works in rounds, no major chain stitching. While I like the patterns in this book (only completed Mickey so far), I don’t think it’s good for those who are learning how to crochet for the first time. I did learn a few new techniques from this book, like double crochet and half double crochet. I’m happy with it and glad that I got it. My only recommendation is to use your own yarn and crochet hooks. I use crochet hooks with the soft handles and as for yarn, many of the reviews said that the yarn this kit comes with is poor quality. So, I use my own yarn (super cheap big twist brand from Joann’s Fabric online) so that I know I like the quality, wont have to worry about running out of yarn, and will have the same color, size, and shape for all the projects in the book.

I wish this kit had a little more instructions especially for Goofy.

I didn't use the hook and yarns from the kit as the hook size is definitely too big for the thin yarn included (You can see from the kit's photos since there are holes at the stuffed characters). I bet you can't follow the patterns if you are new to crochet. I only made Mickey Mouse so far using my own yarn and hook The pattern of Mickey can be written with more details and specifics. The assembly instruction is not very clear too. There are many parts to be crocheted and many sewing to do for assembly. Make sure you have the patience to finish before you buy this kit.

The yarn that came with this kit is too thin. It be better if you just bought your own. I like the patterns, they’re simple and easy to follow. However, after completing a few of these projects I will say that you definitely need to have a lot of patience. There are a lot of pieces to sew together. I also thought the instructions for Mickey’s face were kind of off. I had to make my own adjustments and it still didn’t look similar to the photo in the book. Maybe that’s just my fault but I don’t really like the look of it.

Would be great if the yarn was a little thicker or should I call it thread. :-) Thanks.

The patterns are not written in the normal "crochet language", the book should have been spiral bound so it lays open flat for ease of use, my hook had a burr that caught on the yarn and the weight of the yarn either should be a bit heavier or a smaller hook provided so that the stuffing doesn't show through as much as it does. (I consider myself an expert with a hook, I've been crocheting for over 50 years). The patterns are fun but I know after going through and making each character (with Red Heart yarn), I will be rewriting the pattern for many of the pieces for my own use. I gave this 3 stars for the fun factor.

Wool is lovely and soft. It is more of a 4 ply weight than a dk, and the hook included is a 4mm so I would probably use a 3mm or even a 2.5mm hook. Obviously this will make the characters smaller, but the sizes stated in the book are quite large-Mickey should be 8" tall when worked with the kit items. The book has patterns for Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Chip and Dale, Pinocchio, Jiminy Cricket, Lady (as in Lady and the Tramp), Goofy, Pluto, Dumbo and Bambi.

fantastic kit and so easy to work with. would highly recommend for anyone who enjoys crochet. not a beginner's kit unless you know all the stitches. really enjoyed making these.

Excellent kit, very pleased with the quality of the contents. Lovely clear instructions in the pattern book.

Not overly impressed the product gives the impression that it's a kit with yarn included but infact all I recieved was the pattern book. The patterns themselves are great but this means I need to wait until I can get my own yarn to actually try them.

I have all these kits. And they are good value for money. You can make two out the kits. Plus u even get the stuffing.
