Wasn't What I Needed - THIS FEEDBACK RETRACTED & I WILL TELL YOU WHY
I bought this book specifically because I wanted to learn which oils and more importantly, which constituents blend with others for the maximum therapeutic benefit. I've already graduated aromatherapy and chemistry, now I wanted to get to the details of therapeutics and, well, as this book puts it, synergies............ This book barely covers that at all and I'm so disappointed as it is on several recommended reading lists. This book covers everything I've learned so far - nothing new; and it's incredibly boring reading. It does not tell me anything about blending constituents or even oils for that matter..........so disappointed and, judging by the title, misled.UPDATE: I entered this feedback after reading the first 50 or so pages of the book. I found it extremely boring and difficult to stay with. Then I jumped into the "meat" of the book when I needed to treat a case of ringworm. Not only does she give the pathology of conditions, she gives oils that treat them as well as constituents along with the research. This is done for MANY conditions. I regret giving that feedback now as I see that with her help, I treated a case of ringworm that had been plaguing a client for YEARS. Sorry about that Jennifer. I LOVE your book and as others say, will refer to it for years and years to come.

Consider it a must-have, esp. for novices
This is a very good book. Well-researched, well written, well-organized. Rhind gives a good overview on the history, philosophy, and science of synergistic blending of essential oils, as well as personal insights and tips. While those looking for recipes will be disappointed, there are many tips on what to combine, and enough information is given about synergy and blending that people who actually want to learn about the therapeutic application of essential oils will be able to construct useful recipes on their own. I also like that Rhind gives a good rundown on the therapeutic application of the "common", well-known perfume oils like rose and neroli. The primary drawback of this book doesn't have to do with the content but rather the formatting of the Kindle version...the extensive list of oils in Chapters 14 & 15, where she breaks down the constituents and applications, should be hyperlinked in the table of contents (TOC) for easier navigation. There are a few other minor flaws in the Kindle formatting throughout the book, but that's the most glaring. The excellent indexes are well hyperlinked, however, even if that doesn't quite make up for lack of hyperlinks in the TOC.All in all I consider this a must-have, not only for good info on synergy and blending, but also because the information on the therapeutics of individual oils is excellent. I intend to buy in hard-copy, as well.

This book is so well written and easy to understand
This book is so well written and easy to understand. Jennifer Peace Rhind has become one of my favorite authors. In her introduction Jennifer Peace Rhind says "this book will help and inspire all those who work with, or simply enjoy essential oils to be responsible, mindful and creative in their use". I think this sums up her most important goal for writing this book. This book is for beginners as well as for those that have been using essential oils for years. This has become one of most referenced books.

boring and uneducational
Edited review as of Sep. 29, 2016: I had such hopes for this book but after browsing, I wanted to return it (however, I took to long to get to browsing it so the returns window closed and I didn't end up returning this book). I studied aromatherapy for many years for personal use and for my organic skincare line and have a good amount of knowledge at this point, but lately more serious, in-depth books have been published on the topic so I have been able to deepen my knowledge, especially from the science point of view. I am normally a sucker for aromatherapy, flower therapy, and herbal healing books, but this book has so many flaws: boring; the one case study on acne presented concluded that the oils chosen did not improve the patient's acne (just the patient's feelings about it changed) even though from my experience as a skin care formulator I know that good progress can be achieved with correctly chosen essential oils (and I didn't think highly of the author's suggested blend); when she suggests a blend, her suggestions do not offer an explanation why, they just offer a list of oils to add (which teaches me nothing). The book has a tone of a boring scientific journal article and to me lacks soul and spirit. My top favorite books on aromatherapy are every book by Kurt Schnaubelt, Ph. D, (especially the most comprehensive and best edited The Healing Intelligence of Essential Oils: The Science of Advanced Aromatherapy) and Aromatherapy for Healing the Spirit: Restoring Emotional and Mental Balance with Essential Oils by Gabriel Mojay. I have referred to these two books for years and years on end for alleviating physical and emotional complaints and to help me formulate skin care products for skin beauty and health (corrective to skin concerns such as eczema, psoriasis, acne, scars, enlarged pores, etc.)

fantastic information, detailed and scientific
Ideal resource for Clinical Aromatherapists, fantastic information, detailed and scientific. Perhaps a bit detailed for every day aroma work but I work in a clinical setting and I found this book to be invaluable.
