The Best Little Grammar Book Ever!: 101 Ways to Impress With Your Writing and Speaking
K**N
108 Pages of Enlightenment in Grammar and Writing References
This book is, by far, the best reference book on grammar that I had brought. I know that many buyers rely on reviews to make their decision on purchasing a product, so I will try to make my review as useful as possible for others who are currently considering on buying this book; because I also rely heavily on buyer's reviews for my purchasing decisions, I will surely do the same for others.Although this book only has 117 pages, it contains all that you need to know about English grammar. The author laid out the book in 101 easy-to-follow sections, hence the phrase that goes with the book title "101 ways...". The book starts off with the basics of grammar, and then moving on to the more complex grammar. Each section is thoroughly explained, and is accompanied with easy-to-understand examples that are related to the topic of the section. One of the good things I like about the book is that, it uses section referencing as you go through the book; most sections refer back to the previous or later sections when talking about topics that are related or have/will appear in another section as well. You can easily go back and forth to the section with the related topic as reference to what you are currently reading. The included glossary is also a gem in this book; you can easily find all the terms that were used in the book, in there. However, of course, the index (not that it is not a gem) is also helpful.I have read many reference books, and I can say that some reference books can drive you crazy with confusing sections and explanations (not to mention the lack of examples in many of them); however, with this book, reading through the sections was like a walk-in-the-park. I was very comfortable with how the book was structured. I think that should cover about everything, so I would definitely recommend this book to those who are looking to buy an easy-to-read, simple grammar book. Many thanks to the author for writing this book!

I love it!
I happened to find this book while I was browsing Amazon. After I read the all good reviews on the book, I decided to get this book. Guess what? I wasn't disappointed! This book is simple and easy to follow. There are seven chapters and each chapter is divided according to a single topic. As the title of this book indicates, the book is very concise and yet contains all the bones of English grammar. Trust me I have gotten through a lot of grammar books, but this little yellow book is a lot better than many fat grammar books I’ve read. Sometimes, the shorter the better. ^_^

Perfect replacement for Strink & White
Excellent. Concise. This book provides short paragraphs explaining various rules and also provides helpful examples for each rule. The only negative is some of the rules are overly simplistic and therefore not fully accurate. Also, some of the examples aren't helpful. But these are minor criticisms; the book is excellent as a reference guide. Keep it by your side or office desk.

A well-chosen title
I am frequently surprised and aghast to hear educated people ranging from Barack Obama to Sean Hannity say "gunna," shoulda," "woulds" and "coulda." George W. Bush was quoted in Time magazine spewing out "was like" instead of "said" -- in the manner of a Generation-Y-er.Letters to editors, blogs and books demonstrate a similar degeneration of the typed word. It sometimes seems like English teachers all retired around 1970.Arlene Miller is an English teacher, and previously worked as a newspaper reporter, technical writer and book editor. She has a lot to teach the semi-literates who speak and write on our planet.Arlene's book, "The Best Little Grammar Book Ever!," may actually be the best little grammar book ever. Packed into a compact 120 pages, the book provides information, answers and advice that will be valuable to every writer. It belongs on _your_ desk. You can check it when you have a question, or just stick a finger between two random pages when you have a minute or two of spare time. I guarantee that you'll find something useful, and may avoid looking stupid or amateurish.Arlene taught me to use quote marks around short things like song titles, to italicize big things like book titles, and which words to capitalize in book titles. She also discusses "concrete nouns" and the "predicate nominative" -- which I assumed had become extinct in the Neanderthal era.Michael N. The Best Little Grammar Book Ever
In preparation for a remedial community college English class I taught, I purchased 6 other grammar books to compare against one another (e.g., The Idiots Guide, Dummies, CliffNotes, etc). Hands down, The Best Little Grammar Book Ever! is the BEST. I even brought the other books to my class to show the students and they all voted for Ms. Miller's. Her examples are clearly presented, examples precise, and formatting accessible. She includes quizzes at the beginning of every chapter and the answers are on the next page. The students are able to see where they need help before getting stated. She does go a little overboard with her use of exclamation points, but she also lets the readers know this. It does reflect her passion for grammar. My students and I thank her for making the learning process less painful.

easy reference. Clarified a lot of things for me
Quick, easy reference. Clarified a lot of things for me. Some describe it as basic, but hey, it covers most of the the things most people need and that's just fine.
