Contact on top front was bent.
I went on YouTube to find out how to install this lamp. As expected, there are no installation instructions that come with this lamp. The installation looked very simple and since I am fairly mechanically inclined, I thought putting it in would be a cinch. Well, the damn thing would not snap into place. I took me two days and many tries to finally get it installed. Turns out that after comparing the old lamp to my new lamp, I notice that the new lamp's top front metal contact was bent far out of place. This is a rigid piece of steel that took pliers and heavy-duty tweezers to bend back into shape. I had to make the steel piece fit back over the four little black tips. It was not very easy. The steel was very hard to bend. Once I got it fixed, the lamp snapped in perfectly and easily. This bend could not have happened during shipping or while I was trying to install it. TV works fine now. Hopefully the bent clip was just a fluke on the one I received.

Perfect Lamp for Sony KDF-E50A10 Projection TV
This was a dead simply purchase - the TV went out and I was met with a couple of choices:1) buy a new or refurbed TV set (which I'm seeking out an excuse for everyday)2) fix the old oneI'm trying to be more handy and attempting to elongate the lifespan of all my purchases. This was worth the effort. I think the bulb retailed for about $45 at the time of purchase, it arrived within a day of the transaction (2-day shipping expected), and it took me all of 15 minutes to install the new bulb (15 minutes to unpack the bulb, research how to change it on YouTube, change the bulb, and clean up the debris). We have a TV that looks like new - we have another 8 years on life on this puppy and I'm super relieved that I didn't buy a fresh LED/LCD/Plasma TV. Albeit, I'm still looking for an excuse to get one.If you're in my position, get the bulb.

Works Great...While It Works
You really can't beat the price for this product, a complete assembly. It works great ...while it works. Only criticism I have is its lifespan. The original lamp from the television lasted about four years. This will be the second of these generic replacement lamps I've installed. The first replacement lasted a year and a half. Will see how this one lasts and will update this post if it burns out sooner (or lasts longer) than the last one. Some of the postings report faint off-colored hues toward the bottom of the screen after re-lamping, but I have had nothing like this happen with either of the generic lamp replacements I've used.

Great Replacement Lamp / Bulb
My Sony TV lamp died right before the weekend and big football party plans, so I called my local electronics store and confirmed that they did carry the Sony replacement lamp and the cost was $200. I told them that I had seen what look like perfectly good replacement lamps on Amazon for $35 or so and they said.... "Well we carry the Sony brand and you are really taking your chances with some of those other bulbs"... For 1/6 the price, I decided to take my chances and ordered this bulb. It was shipped quickly and took me about 3 minutes to change the bulb and my TV picture looks brighter and better than ever. I don't know if it will last as long as the original Sony bulb (approx 7 years) but at $35 I am very happy with my purchase! Thanks!

Easy and inexpensive!
After reading many of the reviews online, I ordered this lamp when the one in my Sony went out. Having watched a YouTube video showing the replacement process prior to it's delivery, it took maybe 2 minutes to open the box and swap the defective part. The lamp worked perfectly the first time I turned the television back on. The only negative reviews I read were related to the short lifespan of this aftermarket replacement, citing 3-12 months of use before having issues. I've only been using this lamp for a week and a half, so I can't speak to the lifespan, but the performance is excellent. To me it is worth the $45 to extend the life of the television, even if it is only for another 3-12 months.

I'm not sure right now.
July 21- It's great! Our TV is like new. I had to call & speak to an expert. At first it did not work because I did not know that the inside door knob must be horizontal as it was before you opened it. Read your TV manuel (it's on line) before attempting the change- it helps.Today is 8/21 and the TV is not going on. The repair man told me that it's most likely the lamp & that I should return it and get a new one. I'm sad because it was working so well!

TV Replacement Lamp
I have a Sony KDF-E50A10 TV with a cablecard device. The card device hasn't worked properly since it was new. Comcast has tried new cards with no success. Since I replaced the lamp the card device has worked properly. The original lamp may havebeen faulty?????. Since the TV was purchased in 2005 every day or two when I turned it on there was no sound or picture. I had to turn the TV off, pull cord from wall, eject card,re-insert card, TV cord into wall plug, turn TV power on and then it would work for a few days. Hope the TV continues to work with the new lamp.

Save your old housing
It worked but it gave off a bad smell like burning plastic. I figured the smell would go away after a day or two but it didn't. I took the lens out of the new housing and put it in the old housing and the smell is gone. This one must use cheaper plastic in the housing. Also, the wire connecting to the end of the bulb is not screwed down with a nut like the old one I paid $80.00 for a couple of years ago.
