Installs easily, have a small level handy and don't use the drywall mounting screws included in the package. If you are installing this on drywall, run to the hardware store and get EZ Anchor Twist and Locks for hollow walls - you will be glad that you did.The directions are very clear and the doorbell looks and sounds great.If you are replacing an existing doorbell, you may need to run a new cable with extra wires as this doorbell needs to be connected directly to the bell transformer for constant power and not just through a switch. If you are unable to add the extra wiring, there is an option to add two nine volt batteries and stay with your existing traditional wiring.

First, they discontinued making these at Nutone earlier this year. Why? They are a little expensive and competing against wireless systems and electronic tones. Just the same, they are well worth it if you can find them. It is critical that you know how these are wired. Instead of just two wires coming into the ringer, this one requires 4. When you do get these wired correctly, they sound wonderful. Not a true 4 chime Westminster but for the money, a wonderful alternative to very expensive 4 tubular bell ringers.

Love the chimes! It suits my récit beautifully

I decided to order this unit because of the picture and the description including brass tubes, the wood cover, and its appearance hoping it would produce a pleasant wind chime sound, or church bell sound.I was concerned about the reviews describing missing parts and so on but decided to take a chance as I trust Amazon to help if parts were missing.The kit was well packaged with no damage upon arrival and all parts were present, including the tubes and the transformer.Once installed, which was easy, it producedNuTone LA70MA Traditional Wired Musical Door Chime, Maple Finish only a clunking sound. I called support to see if the tubes or plungers could be adjusted to produce a better sound. No! During the call, it was suggested that I move the selection switch (circuit board design) between 4 notes and 8 notes to see if there were any changes to the sound. This is when we learned it would produce only 2 notes or 4 notes. One of the plungers was not working. I was also not satisfied with the tubes not having the quality appearance I was expecting. Nutone support apologized and suggested I return the defective unit.I also expressed my disappointment with not being able to find a quality door bell. All I can find is plastic with circuit boards. What happened to mechanical, quality and beauty?Amazon's return and refund policy, for me, is excellent. I have been an Amazon customer for years. This is not the unit if you are looking for quality in appearance and sound.

It has a selectable 4 or 8 chime switch. The installation is very straight forward. The solid wood cover is very nicely made. For those wondering about the three silver tubes hanging below, they are not the chimes but are simply rigidly mounted aluminum tubes surrounding the steel bars that actually make the sound. It could be a little louder but overall it is satisfactory. It was shipped in the factory's original flimsy box but despite the box being beat up, the contents were in good shape. The dimensions in the Amazon description are way off - laughingly so. Check the NuTone web site for the real numbers.By the way, NuTone says that this model is discontinued, but there are similar ones still being made, such as the LA310CY or LA70MA.Someone had complained that one had to use two 9V batteries - that only applies if you can't directly connect the 18VAC bell transformer to the unit. If you can't do that, then the batteries are necessary.Update 10-27-2014:After having it in operation a while, I have to say that it is definitely not very loud. If there is any background noise, such as a TV or washing machine, it is hard to hear. Based upon that, I dropped this review from 4 to 3 stars.

I bought this to replace a 1977 doorbell. It is perfect. It sounds great and looks beautiful.

For my doorbell. Now if only your delivery people would use the door bell I would know when I receive a package. That is why there is so much theft. The door bell though is beautiful and you can hear in any part of the house.

With very limited selection, this was the best one for the value, one issue was that there's only one channel that sounds multiple chimes the others are only play one chime.
