Better Oblivion Community Center is a brand new band comprising the formidable talents of Phoebe Bridgers and Conor Oberst, two of the most lauded American songwriters of the past several years. Written and recorded in Los Angeles during the summer of 2018, their self-titled debut album will be released on Dead Oceans in early 2019. The pair first collaborated on Bridgers' 2017 single, "Would You Rather", taken from her acclaimed debut album Stranger In The Alps. They teamed up again for a recording of Oberst's "LAX" in the fall of 2018. Co-produced by Bridgers, Oberst and long time Oberst/Bright Eyes collaborator Andy LeMaster, Better Oblivion Community Center features the work of several talented friends: Yeah Yeah Yeahs' guitarist Nick Zinner appears on two tracks (first single "Dylan Thomas" and "Dominoes") while Carla Azur (Autolux, Jack White) plays drums on half of the album. Dawes' rhythm section Wylie Gelber and Griffin Goldsmith appear on the other half. Songwriter Christian Lee Hutson contributes guitar and Anna Butterss provides bass. Bridgers and Oberst are currently putting together a live band to tour in March and April.

I didnโt know what I was in for
This unexpected project came out of the blue from indie folk veteran Conor Oberst and critically acclaimed up-and-comer Phoebe Bridgers. As a fan of both artists, I was excited, and this album is hopefully not a one-time project. It brings out the best in both artists, with their styles complementing each other perfectly. There's not really a standout track on the album (which I feel is par for the course for Oberst; I love Bright Eyes albums but rarely pick out individual songs), but it's a rewarding listen start to finish.

A modern gem
Excellent songs. Two wonderful voices. Grabbed my ear from the very first listening like a select few albums accomplish. Highly recommended๐

Nice album.
I knew what I was getting when I saw this band perform on Colbert. It didn't disappoint. I'd call it alternative -- kind of a spacey folk-rock thing with excellent songwriting. The standout track is called "Dylan Thomas," so that tells you something right there.

Conor and Phoebe create an awesome album with an awesome band
Conor Oberst and Phoebe Bridger write an album and form a band (BOCC) that's "raises the bar" for both of them. The harmony vocals, arrangements and musicianship made this album a stellar project. It had a great SoCal Rock feel to it. I hope they do more albums together.

Recommended for any Phoebe Bridgers fans
Phoebe Bridgers is one of the busiest artists out there today and I am so glad she is. Not only is her solo work so amazing, she also makes sure that any work with her name attached is of that high standard too. This is no exception.
