MasterChef Kitchen Bible

Great general cookery book for all levels
I really like the MasterChef Kitchen Bible. It's a good all-round, general cookery book with some great tips and recipes. Some other reviewers have complained that the recipes are too basic. Whilst it's true that most people can probably cook quiche, chips and flapjacks already, there are lots of other (more complex) recipes that are worth exploring. For example, about 90 pages are dedicated to recipes from MasterChef participants from the TV show. Many of these are fine dining and far from simple. In total, approximately half of the book (the first 243 pages) is dedicated to recipes. The other half contains 'know-how' including information on kitchen tools, cooking methods and ingredients. Within this section there is guidance on making stocks, pasta, mayonnaise, veloute sauces, pastries etc...

Tiramisù recipe WRONG!!!
WRONG TIRAMISÙ RECIPE!! This is a beautiful cookbook anyone should have. Many good recipes and explanatory charts. Only negative, and I am sorry to say so as I am a northern Italian and cannot overlook a massive mistake in the tiramisù recipe! Their "version" is basically a cream made with only mascarpone and sugar, completely omitting that you must add beaten egg yolks in the mascarpone !! Ohhh dear, how heavy, tastless and pointless. THAT IS NOT THE REAL TIRAMISÙ, which was invented in Treviso, Veneto region in Italy. Such a shame for so called Masterchefs!! Disgraceful mistake, makes me wonder how many other wrong and poorly written recipes are in there...

Too simple
I expected more intricate recipes from Master chef Bible. Many good desserts are on offer but very few main dishes that are very basic and include Shepherd's pie and omelette! Not for someone who already has cooking skills. Will send it back.

A good basic reference book for classic recipes.
As a basic, go-to for classic dishes, this is excellent. It is sturdily bound and has excellent pictures. There is a note with each recipe suggesting variations, which is useful. There is a section giving information about different foods and cooking methods. For a cook just starting out, this is an ideal reference book. Once they have mastered the skills in this book, they will be ready to add their own imaginative ideas to their cooking, knowing they have all the techniques they need to move onwards and upwards. My only grouse is that it is a very thick, heavy book and will not stay open on the worktop. If it had a more economical layout and a spiral binding, I would love it much more!

Worth buying
Bought as birthday present for 25 year old son who’s just getting into cooking. Very informative on cooking know how (although I’m either missing something or there are basic errors, 1tsp = 90ml, 2tsp 100ml?) but I suspect there’s a lot in it that he won’t find useful. That, however, is down to him as he doesn’t eat fish and lives in France where a number of things in the recipes are not readily available.I suspect though, that after I have another good look at it before I give it to him, I will probably buy for myself.Four stars as corner of book was damaged
