How do I get the dongle thing to work?

usb WIFI is junk. they are only good for sending email. Buy a WIFI card. If you need a nice computer, just buy a nice one. It cost too much to upgrade this one. It is good for grandma that wants to send emails.

Can this item work well with google classroom for teachers, screen sharing, virtual background etc?

I have not used it at work for Zoom or Google Classroom. However, it should do well. But you will need a good web camera and microphone.
