Several people say the regulator is malfunctioning has this been corrected? Is there good response from manufacturers.

These are dealt with on a case per case basis as there are various factors that come in to play. In regards to the regulator, threading the fuel canister in the upright position is important. This is to not introduce liquid propane into the regulator and will aid in longevity of its function. I hope this helps.

Amazon is suggesting pairing this purchase with a pot support. If it comes with a fry pan, doesn't it already have a pot support?

The halfgen has a broad burner top support for pots. It is quite robust and could support a large stockpot. The pot support you mentioned may be for the small jetboil campstoves which have smaller burner heads and pot supports. The halfgen does not need any additional pot support.

Is there a hose or adapter to connect this to a larger 5 lb ignik propane cylinder?

You can purchase a adapter hose yes. I did for my camping setup.
