It Works!
I have been spending more time hiking lately and having a compass seemed like a good idea. When I go on hikes, I keep my phone with my keys and power bank altogether in my hydration pack. I do not want to chance having my phone in my pocket and have it drop in swamp water on the trail. Having said that, my phone was my primary source for orienting myself on the trail.Since I no longer use my phone I wanted something that doesn’t need batteries or a GPS signal to work. Hence, the basic compass. As a test, I went on a 6 mile hike with my group and we only used my compass when we went on new trails. It worked perfectly and it was easy to read. I have to admit, there was something a little special using an analog compass. It’s quite satisfying and I highly recommended it.The overall construction is nice and the color was vibrant (I selected the orange variant). It is super lightweight and compact, so throwing this in the pack was a no brainer. If I had a complain, it would be speed. The needle seemed to lag a little bit until it found north, but I’m not sure if it’s the needle or I’m just not used to old school tech.Summary: nice and cheap tool for a hiker that doesn’t want to drag more batteries out to the trails.

Good value

Decent beginner compass.
Almost as good as the old Silva compasses of my youth. Bezel is a bit stiff, but otherwise very good. Liquid filling steadies the needle nicely.

Nice - the ability to adjust magnetic declination is the real killer feature for the price point
Great little, inexpensive compass. Does what it should, nothing fancy. The ability to adjust magnetic variation/declination is critical and hard to find at this price point. Will it last forever? Does it hold up as well as expensive units? Probably not quite. But it's held up well to some abuse (backpacking and mountain biking excursions, it's my backup nav system should my GPS fail) so far. And at this price I'm happy to buy another if it lasts even a few years.Unless you're doing advanced navigation tasks - and instead you just need a basic compass (with settable mag variation/declination) - here's your next purchase.

Decent for Beginners, But Lacks Precision
It is functional for basic hiking or camping needs but falls short for more advanced navigational tasks. It’s lightweight and easy to use, making it suitable for beginners or casual outdoor activities. However, the accuracy can be inconsistent, especially when used for more precise orienteering. The build quality is decent, but it feels a bit flimsy. Overall, it’s a reasonable option for those who need a simple, affordable compass, but experienced users may want something more reliable for complex expeditions.
