Q: Anyone try this on an John Deere stx38?

No... mines on a Honda 249 c.c. side shaft on a Go Kart. no issues. Been on for almost 3 or 4 years now.

Q: Is this 3/16" square 12" long? the title indicates that but the shipping dimension is not, so i'm confused. how easy can i cut to 1-1/4" long?

Yes! 3/16 and 12 inches long. You can cut it with band saw,hack saw or cutting wheel easy.

Q: What is a good way to cut this? Thanks so much...

I used a cut-off disk on my Dremel.
