Do you use this while holding on to the bare whole nutmeg with your fingers?

I place the grater on a clean surface and stabilize it with my fingers and just start grating. It is tricky at first but so worth it as I love fresh nutmeg.

What is made this of? Others state they're made of stainless steel, this one does not, so I assume it is aluminum.

I looked it over but it doesn't say anything about it. From the weight I would have to say aluminum.

How many nutmegs does it store?

The grater only stores one nutmeg in the top. The extra nutmegs should be stored in a sealed container to maintain freshness.

What type of metal is the blade made out of?

There is no blade, but the grater is made of stainless steel, so it will not rust/corrode
