I purchased this 2/2014 and it was made in China. After reading the answer that they were made in Japan I purchased it. It will be going back to Amazon today. I do wish Amazon was more consistent in providing nation of origin. For products that I will either eat or eat from, I do not trust items from China - to many vendors there are known to take shortcuts to increase profitability.

Is it 100% spillproof? If I shake it or turn it upside down will it leak or drip in any way?

Here's a tip: once I close the lid and turn it shut (make sure it's not too full that it's past bottom of the lid when you twist it on), I flip it upside down over the sink to make sure whatever needs to leak out will get over with it, turn it back upright and release the pressure by twisting the opening and then close it back up. So basically close, flip, open, close. This helps with the leaking for me.

does the top come apart for cleaning

Yes, you can take it completely apart. I have learned to do this weekly, because I use soy milk in my coffee, and it does build up and leave residue. It's very easy to do. Love this mug! Had it for over 4 years, still works great. Only mug I've ever had that's 100% spill-proof. If you pre-heat it with hot water before putting your coffee in, the coffee stays hot longer.

Does the lid screw on or just push on? I can't tell from the description.

I haave I have an older version of this thromos with the exact same lid. This is leak proof and it works fantastic. As for all those of you , me included tend to tighten the lid on tight. Problem I found is that you have a very difficult time removing the lid. Stop tightening it so tight ..we start to changing our tightening habits to just lightly screw it on. still leak proof with no issues and now esally can remove the lid. Problem solved. Fantastic product and ready to buy my next one due to the older verison i had several years and being dropped banged and tossed. Recomend 100%
