Good quality and sturdy island!
After posting a question to fact find about the quality of this island I decided due to positive feedback to order it. I have to say I am delighted with the quality and design of this unit. It is sturdy and looks brilliant and allows for two stools to fit perfectly under the seating flap part which we keep up all the time. I ordered two great height adjustable stools also on Amazon grey velvet which are really lovely with it. I am so pleased and can’t recommend this unit enough as it has given me extra counter top space as well as two drawers and presses which I needed badly. It was built by my husband in about an hour and a half but he is good with flat pack furniture! Don’t hesitate if you are considering this unit!

Good quality, arrived fast
It arrived 3 days before the estimated delivery date, it took longer then 2 hours to assemble but that because I did things like screwed the screws in part way before putting things together so it was easier to put the doors on and such. Due to the bulky structure and assembling the bottom first I would recommend at least 2 people to assemble but it is doable alone, also the counter top is very heavy. It comes in 2 box's, each box had an assembly leaflet and a sheet on how to return, I had 3, the leaflet has pictures of the parts and how many with corresponding number stickers on parts, same with the screws and such having corresponding letters on packets, it says all you need is a screw driver and allen key, neither are provided. I found I didn't need an allen key but at least 3 different size cross head screw drivers, if you have a interchangeable head torque screw driver the better as some force is needed in some areas. don't be disheartened either if when you are fixing the bottom to the frame if it doesn't sit right, I've found this with most types of self assembly furniture, you get it on strait then put the screws in a little then tighten each one a bit until it is solidly fixed in place by the screws, by that point is should fit perfectly. When placing the counter top in place make sure the supports for the foldable section of the counter are in position to hold the foldable section up otherwise it will pull the main counter top out of alignment when fixing it to the main frame. The tea towels holder can be fitted to either side, this must be done before fitting the sides to the frame as the frame is in the way of the screw holes, I did it after wards with some degree of difficulty but nothing was damaged, item 4 is the right side and 3 is the left. there are wood style vinyl stickers to stick over the holes on the side without the tea towels holder but they are lighter then the wood they affix to.the counter top looks like brushed steel yet is very smooth, its sturdy and solid, the shelves in the cupboards have 3 fully adjustable heights that can be changed easily at any time.I love it and am really glad I bought it.

Take time and care
I do not know what 'sheerness' is, so I have not added a value for it.This arrived when it said it would and was fairly well packaged in a multitude of polystyrene pieces. We took our time in building it being well versed over the years in DIY furniture, and it did reward us with the care taken as we had no serious problems or mistakes to correct.Luckily I did manage to fit the towel rail on the side I wished it on (as opposed to the instructions) as the screws are hidden when piecing it together. These instructions are all in picture format and we found them easy to follow. Our only problem was that one drawer was supplied with the fittings on the wrong way around (ie. the stops were at the wrong end so it could not be fitted on the rail).Despite the double layer of protective coating on the stainless steel and the polystyrene, the top was damaged on receipt with dents in two places and unmoveable marks on the corners where the coating had lifted but we decided just to stick with it as it is bound to be 'damaged' with use anyway. In fact, since we started using the island a week ago after it had been built, the steel has indeed marked and has already got some scratches on it despite the care we have taken!I would say that the castors are very good for moving this item but the brakes are very stiff and in our case, even when engaged, do not stop the unit moving on our laminate boards. We found that if we fitted the castors as instructed on the sheet, the unit was fairly secure at one end but the other end moved as freely as always and dragged the braked end with it, so we would advise putting one brake as instructed and the other diagonally across from it at the other end. As stated earlier it does not stop the unit moving completely on our laminate boarding but I think it perhaps may work on stone floors or carpeting. The unit holds quite a lot of items though the drawers are quite shallow (spice jars are too big, though cutlery is fine). We have found that the 'bamboo' colourway is just right for our kitchen / diner and the handles match our current kitchen cupboards which is an added bonus as it sits well with the other units. We do like the kitchen island, even with its limitations, and think that it is very sturdy, is good for what we wanted it for and fit for its purpose.
