IYV 6 String Solid-Body Electric Guitar, Right, Black (ISJ-100 BK)
Hello everyone.First of all, let us get this out of the way. When someone purchases a guitar (whether it is used, refurbished, displayed model, with minor imperfection, or a new one) at some point you are going to set the action, set the intonation, treat the fret board, file the fret ends, replace/modify the knobs/switches/bridge/strings/pickups/neck/etc. to your preference. It is no difference when you buy your vehicle. Eventually, you are going to change/add/replace/modify items on your vehicle to your liking. And that is fine. With that said, please do not count these components as a negative criticism towards these guitars.Let us just focus on the guitar itself. With minor tuning and neck adjustments, these guitars are ready to play right out of the box. As you know, minor tuning and neck adjustments are common with any guitar you purchase. The finish, quality, and construction of these guitars are awesome. The headstock is eye-catching. The neck is straight. The frets do not have dents/divots and are smooth (no sharp edges). The fret board is fine. The body is beautiful. The joints/seems are connected to satisfactory. The hardware (pickup selector or switch/output or input jack/volume & tone knobs or controls/bridge/pickups/pick guard/tuners/electronics/screws/nuts/strap buttons/fret or inlay markers/fret nut) are nice, functional, and tight. There may be some small blemishes or cloudy finishes here and there, fret board might have some kind of dye on it, but nothing really significant that would cause you NOT to play the guitar immediately.I’ve made NO modifications or changed any components on this guitar and had no major issue with feedback noise, guitar getting out of tune from hours of play, components getting loose or not working, breaking strings, electrical issues, etc. Again, everyone has their option on what they consider feedback, guitar out of tune, components getting loose or not working, breaking strings, electrical issues, etc. And that is okay. It also varies on the equipment (amps/stacks/pedals/cables/etc.) you use and how you play these guitars. In conclusion, these guitars are attractive, feel great, look fabulous, sound terrific, entice you to play them and definitely fun to play.I am sold, and I am a HUGE fan of the IYV Guitars! I wished I could have purchased the earlier models when they first came out. If I had the money, I would buy all the IYV models. For an electric guitar under $200.00 and with no shipping fees, these guitars are an excellent investment! I will say it again. Not only are these guitars gorgeous, but they are also a pleasure to play.I hope IYV will continue to produce new models or have older models available because I am excited in purchasing them in the future.Thank you IYV Guitar company/staff for producing this magnificent product!

An awesome starter guitar for the budget minded!
The media could not be loaded. I got a deal on this guitar and had to pull the trigger, loosely speaking, and get it in my hands. Now, I wasn't in the market for a new guitar nor was I in 'need' of one either. My guitar collection usually consists of more well known brands in their vintage or higher tier models. So why in the #@$% would I ever want a starter guitar? Honestly, curiosity. There were no reviews and the price was good. I was totally and completely baited. The guitar arrived with Amazon Prime USPS shipping and I had it in my hands two days after submitting my order. It seemed to ship from the Inland Empire within Southern California, near Riverside. The guitar arrived in a thin box with little protection, but there wasn't any damage to the outside of the box. Upon opening it up, the black gloss finish was a mirror shine. I've experienced lesser-expensive/cheaper guitars to have a ripple to the finish from the wood grain below. Not in this case. This instrument has a nice gloss to it.The design of the guitar is pretty good too. It reminds me of a Jackson Soloist design with Dinky features. The headstock is pretty close to that trademark Jackson hockey-stick design, loaded with generic sealed machine heads. I really dig the string through body design and the tune-o-matic bridge. I've seen others complain about noisy, loose saddles in previous incarnations of this guitar, but that definitely wasn't the case here. This is a solid tune-o-matic bridge, easy to adjust and intonate. As for the body, I really dug the tapered design behind the neck pocket to allow easier access to the higher frets. As for the neck's features, it's a nice 24-fret layout which I honestly don't see too much on entry level guitars. Usually it's more common to see 21-22 fret necks out there. The shape of the neck is a C-shape neck, not too thick but not thin either. It feels like something pretty run of the mill. The nut isn't giving me any problems yet either with tuning and stability, which is a sigh of relief.Upon opening up the rear cavity to inspect the components, this guitar has 2x 500k pots for tone and volume. What is cool is that this guitar's humbuckers have 4 conductor wires, allowing the guitar modder to expand their tonal options with either DPDT switches or push/pull pots. The humbuckers also have adjustable pole pieces, which again, is something not often seen on entry level guitars. Usually cheap humbuckers have fixed pole pieces throughout. So it's pretty awesome to see these at least appear to be premium. The switch is a standard, import 3-way blade which does the job. The knobs themselves are made of a metal shell and molded plastic filler to slide the knob on and off the pot for maintenance, if needed. If you're going to add push/pull pots, you'll need new knobs as well that fasten to the pot's shaft. These slip on knobs won't do.The neck came with some minor cosmetic damage and some finish flaws. But I'm going to sand the back down anyway and reseal with tung oil. So, for me, that's not the biggest deal. However, damage of any kind is enough to ding a star. The sound of the guitar is pretty good. I haven't measured the pickups yet, but they're definitely bright pushing medium to high gain distortion effects to fun levels. The guitar came equipped with D'Addario EXL-110 Nickel Wound strings, which made it easy for me since that's what I usually stock in the house for my other guitars. But if you're looking for a good entry level guitar for anyone, be it a kid or yourself, this is an excellent find from the up and comer Inyen Vina Guitar Company (IYV).

Disappointed
Guitar arrived with the headstock broken off. Other than that it appeared to have been a fine instrument. I don't blame IYV... Most likely carelessness in shipping and handling.

Wish it was better
I already own a couple IYV guitars and I love them so I figured I'd take a shot with this one. Immediately noticed the sharp fret edges as I ran my hand down the neck. The tape on the pickups seemed to be peeling off too. I could've fixed these issues myself but I expected better when my other guitars were issue free.

Great guitar for the price
Got this guitar at a bargain price of $60, but even at its current price I still would consider this guitar a bargain. Straight out of the box the guitar looked and felt really solidly built. The frets didn't have any sharp edges on it which most cheap guitars do. The frets were also pretty much buzz free despite having low action. The body was surprisingly resonant, and the pickups sounded great.I only have two complaints. One, the guitar didn't have perfect intonation, which is a very easy fix; and two, the tune-o-matic bridge was installed backwards, which is also an easy fix. I'll probably buy a 2nd one to experiment with instead of buying a DIY kit.

It was a sweet deal
I was able to snag this for $60 to my door. It's a nice guitar. Great feeling neck, playable out of the box. Very minor tweaking of the action and intonation and it's ready to rock. Electronics seem decent, but are on par for cheaper instruments. Overall plays and feels like a $300 guitar. Great for beginners or for a beat around travel. I've bought a few of this brand and I'm impressed by the quality for the price.
